Default Rust repair (rocker panel??)

so this is what im dealing with on the 92 si shell i just bought

pass side

drivers side

you can see ive got some work ahead of me. and unfortunately some of the rust extends into the rocker panel and the base of the door. but in looking at this diagram

i can buy new rockers/door sills (i think...)for about 285 a side which isnt horrible. my main question is how in the world do you remove the rusted ones? are they just a straight piece of the body and have to be cut out while trying to keep the body true? or is it just exteripr sheet metal?

any insight would be greatly appreciated!

It's hard to tell without looking at it. It looks like your car is set up like #3 and #4 in the picture. (not 1 and 2)

Take the sideskirts off and see if you can see where the rocker panel would split into 2 parts (like 3 and 4 in the diagram).

thanks man...ive read through that like 15 times.

i think ive made the decision that this is gonna be my time to re-learn welding and learn body work for the first time.

seeing as if you list it out, i can get a lincoln gas mig for 400-500, then quarter patch panels for 40 a side and new rockers for 40 a side, thats alot better than 2k at a shop lol.

i figure if i can build motors, i can do bodywork

You can get body panels for like 50 bucks each. The inner piece. Just cut 3/4" strips of steel and weld and bend them to make a nice arch patch for the inner wheel well. Then slap some seam sealer and tack the new panels in place.

Make sure while your in the wheel wells wash them out very well and cut back 1/2" to 3/4" from the rust. get rid of alll the rust. then hit it with some Zinc primer, body seam sealer then tack weld the new panel on and then re seam seal it and prime the inner then paint it. After wards a light coat of rust proof over the area you worked will help

Other wise your gonna have to do it again.
