I can't find out what size the nut is that is holding the washer on on the outside of the trunk lid. Do I have to remove this nut if I want to keep the motor and setup in contact?

 

Just try different sockets or even an adjustable, no need to have the exact right size.

start with the smallest ratchet and go higher...

 

the largest size socket I have is a 19mm or a 13/16in and it is still bigger than that. I saw a post of a newer hatchback that said the nut was a 24mm. I just don't want to buy the wrong size and have to get another one.
