I have a civic 1,4 is 1998 mod.

Today, the start-lock lamp (I don't know what it's called in english, startlock/ignition-lock? key-symbol) flashed and made a beep, AND the speedometer started spinning wildly all over the scale. I decided to pull over and restart the car, but then it would not start. It does ... rotate, but doesn't ignite. Seems to me as an electric problem.

Any experiences or ideas? I checked the fuses and they seem ok, also cut the battery.

wrong forum, but, is this the Civic Aerodeck? they have an immobilizer system as part of the security system - probably a problem with one of the components - the ignition key is the transponder - the receiver is in the steering wheel - the control unit is under the dash
