bar in trunk hits speaker magnets
does anyone else have rear speakers with a bigger magnet than stock ones and we you close the trunk, the 2 bars that i guess hold the trunk open, they hit the magnets?

5th gen and 4th gen are the same in this regard. i built a 4x10 sub enclosure and mounted it to my rear deck. i replaced my bars with trunk struts. check out how these people did it here:

its not expensive or too hard to do and will give you all the clearance you need.
or you could just make a mount for your rear speakers to lift them up a bit (such as a cut piece of MDF)

you've got to remove the trunk bars. i used a big crescent wrench to do it, some people use crowbars. they do have a bit of tension on them so dont lose control of the bars taking them out.
you can get some brackets and bolt them to the metal seatback as in the pics, then install the struts. it takes a little finesse to make sure the holes are drilled in the right spots so measure a couple times before you give it a go.

I have seen some universal speaker mounts which lift the rear speakers about 60mm off of the rear parcel shelf, they come in 6" and 6"X9" sizes. I saw them one day at my local auto shop, and have since seen them at another auto shop also. They shouldn't be hard to find or just make your own like prion suggested.
i just re-used the stock speaker mount, cut it out to fit the new speakers (alpine-R) and it just barely hits the bars after its bolted down. its not that bad, i got them to fit. took some time tho. also, have the amp mounted underneath the bars on a rack, which also just barely fits.
yeah, can't exactly fit a dead body in the trunk of a prelude....boy would I like to try though hheheheh.
Those spacers is all you need. The stock covers should still be able to be used too hopefully.
I wouldn't bother removing those tie bars in the trunk though. WAY too much work. Way more work than it would take to install those spacers to raise your speakers.
