Throwing OBD1 code 12
Hey guys, this is a wierd one.
Most times when I fire up my 95 prelude and take off, within 1min I usually have the heck engine light come. When I check the code, it's 12 for EGR.
The wierd part comes in that if I simply stop the car then restart, I good until the next time. So it appears to throw the code only when the car is cold and starting to warm up.
The details of the car is that I swapped the H23 for an F22B (I know I know, why but it's because of $$) and the ECU as well.
The car starts and runs great, well maybe less than idle gas mileage as I'm only getting ~20-22 mpg mostly highway driving.
I have gone through the diag chart provided in the Honda SM, but came up empty handed in that everything worked and puttin gin a different ECU didn't solve the problem. As I got the car from a dealer, I can;t ask the old own, but there was blank tape which I didn't see until much later, over the check engine light. I can only gather that this has been a persistent problem and NOT related to the motor itself.
I even soldered wire onto the EGR lift sensor and hooked up a volt meter to check the feedback vaoltage was ~4VDC. When the code comes on, I check right away and see that it is indeed ~4VDC.
What I don't understand is what causes the EGR code. It must be more than the feed back voltage from the EGR lift sensor.
Any ideas?
