recently bought a civic dx, completely stock and its been taken cared of very well/extremely clean


anyways the code p0171 came up and the car runs fine, except occasionally (right about the time the CEL turned on) i felt a quick slight bog of power, but then it went away

could it be because i filled the tank up with 93 octane i figured id run it through the system to clean it out\

i just dont feel like dealing with the used car dealership if its something simple

no 93 octane wont set a lean code, and no it wont "clean" anything either.

 

too bad u might have to change out the whole fuel system.....93 octane is only for high power street cars.....n dohc vtecs n sohc that is built or turbo......sorry man good luck

 

"too bad change the fuel system" NO! um, there is no reason to change the system after runnign higher octane fuel, the only reason to change anything is if it was contaminated, and even so, people just flush it with fuel, do you know how many morons use higher grade fuel because they think it "gives" them more power? or "cleans" the engine, it does neither, and dont reccomend someone to change theuir whole fuel system, o im sorry there wasnt a label at the pump or in the owners manual that says using a higher octane fuel will cause damage! wtf im not trying to ride you, its just that has no base at all to be justified.

 

oh and its not for " high power street cars" its for anything high high compression or boost, which is not neccessarily high performance. example, smartcar- a whopping 71 hp, but requires premium fuel. simply the higher the compression or overall cylender running pressure is the higher octene it needs to prevent self igniting form compression, detonation/ preignition. to avoid a lot of science explanations, premium fuel in a car thats made for unleaded, actually has less o2 in the exhaust "slightly less" and the adaptaions of the ecm will go "slightly" richer, therfore "slightly" dropping economy. and this is for the same given throttle and load. also, due to the later ignition of the premium fuel, beaucese it needs more heat for a longer time to burn, it actually is causeing retarded timing of the fuels power stroke. but alas its only slightly
