HOW-TO: register an EF 7/8/9 OR Firewall Converted Vehicles!
hello! This might not belong here but the general discussion thread gets to busy. maybe this can become beneficial enough to be stickied? Anyways, like the title says, if you have any useful information on how to register jdm vehicles or RHD converted vehicles successfully or at least in the process, please get involved. This is not intended for the questions of, "I think i might do a rhd," or "I think i'm going to buy a jdm car." This is for those who are getting the run around or are stuck OR need help with contact information. Here are some info i've gathered:
-Vehicle must conform to the state emissions standards--- "Certificate of Conformance/Compliance."
-Vehicle must show proof of legitimacy (VIN registration & owner registry from japan clears suspicion of theft)
-Vehicle must show proof of being acceptable as a U.S. spec vehicle.
-Vehicle must show proof of not being shipped as a parts or kit car.
---all of the above is validated through receiveing a "Custom Entry Summary"
-"Smog Certificate"
That's basically all i need. That's where I'm at. I know alot of people out there are being stingy with their info due to being the only one on the block with a RHD but why? I don't know, but my reasoning for getting this car was because it was cheaper thatn getting all the parts seperately. hopefully the replies are only beneficial to those who REALLY need this! MODs please move this to the most appropriate thread if needed.

for my situation, i need to get the custom entry summary next. Basically, i have to contact a "Customs Broker" to make life easier. so far, i've only contacted one company that are willing to do papers for "Grey Market Vehicles." What he needs from me is an O.K. from Honda Corp.. What THEY need from me is all ownership paperwork and transfers, bill of sales, previous registrations etc. (which i have.) I also need a Certificate of Conformance which i basically get from a referee (State Ref for CA.) BUT, our state is going through their budget and that department is CLOSED! So this is something I have to Argue with dmv about in order to get another permit (pink tag.)
the last step is to smog my car which is going to be hard for my particular situation. i have to get everything i need to smog an h22a so getting it BARed is an EXTRA step for this scenario (which i also need help in.)
so far RHD registration is

i'll keep you guys updated...as soon as the California budget gets signed. i have a feeling that DMV is going to give me a permit but that's not exactly a bad thing for the current situ i'm in.

Maybe...they come to realize RHD isn't worth the expense once its all said & done?
Thanks for the info anyways. Sharing is caring

yeah, well, someone has to put in the effort to at least share how far they've gotten with the process...if at a point of registration they SEE how much "the rest" is going to cost, share with the world what "the rest" is going to take. it just kind of sucks to see that there are so many people willing to help each other out there with what they can and then there are people who are just too cool to share
if that were the case then we really can't complain about the stereotypes that come along with owning an import if we can't work together with registrations, smogging, swaps, deals, things of that sort. kinda went off topic but that's just some reasons why i feel this kind of info needs to be shared. just trying to show the legitmate procedures of registering a rhd import or completing an inspection for conversions.

Do you think that an AWD Orthia can be brought in and registered ? Aren't there issues with glass, lenses, smog, airbags and bumpers?
wow this has to be one of the only REAL useful threads for registering a japanese market car here. my thread went off topic instantly( people started talkin about orthias lol)
lol my thread they started talkin bout orthia's but my thread was supposed to be all about reg not orthia lovers meet. (though i would totally rock one lol)
there ARE hidden vins on certain chassis (including the ef) so vin swaps are a definite no no. of course not all chp offices are willing to search for them but risking some fed time is not worth a skyline!

that's what I'm doin!
