98 RS, Car makes blow off sound when shifting only when ac is on
i have a 98 rs coupe, and for some reason, when the ac is on, it makes a blow off sound when i shift gears. does anyone know what this is, or why this happens?thanks
Good luck.
I have this same issue with my '98 LS and have asked around here and over on TI. So far, nobody has been much help. Nor have any of the troubleshooting steps from various manuals - they don't cover this symptom.
In addition, with mine, I can feel/hear it during cruising periodically also. And the A/C seems to leech more power than it should.
Hopefully somebody else that can help sees this.

I just put one on my car last week. It's not a factor. Other than that, my car is bone stock.
In my case, the noise seems to come from the driver's side towards the firewall. If I rev it up via the throttle cable with the hood up, it sounds like something is cracking somewhere in that location when the revs drop. From inside the car, it sounds kinda like a blow-off valve. But I haven't been able to pinpoint it yet.
Again - this only happens with the A/C on.
