hey guys, iv been on an 07 600rr sence spring and its about time for an exhaust. iv been welding mig and tig for some time now and im woundering if anyone on here has made there own header-back or after header- back from scratch. im kinda new to fab. on a motercycle so sorry if this is a stupid question, any pics would be great
also, i was told that the reason not too meny people make there own is because the bike may not run properly if the proper amount of back pressure achieved..
any info is helpful

With an engine as highly tuned as a modern supersport, chances are that you will loose power without tuning and developing on a dyno.

 

so what happens to bikes that just have a slip on or a full header-back? will it run like crap unless you have a power comander?

 

You could always buy another stock muffler on ebay (super cheap), then take it apart and gut it, weld back together, and install. Looks stock but with more sound.

 

im really looking for performance, but a mean sounding pipe is alway nice id just like to fab. my own rather than buy a $500 pipe

 

A lot of what you're paying for is the R&D that went in to the pipe. Especially if it's a full system.

If you make your own header back exhaust I suggest finding some examples from other companies and more or less copying them. You can steal ideas about general flow and pipe diameter and stuff like that. Not sure what you'll do for a can.

The only reason I see to make your own exhaust is if you need an exhaust that no one makes. Like an underseat exhaust on an RC51, or a bellypan exhaust on a 600rr. Something like that.

But if you're just going to make an exhaust because you can, I think performance wise you're going to be better off just throwing an M4 slipon on there or something.

Id rock it on my RC but that company isn't even in business anymore

my buddy dave used to have that same exhaust on his RC, sounds [freak]ing mean!!! he launched the bike over the side not to long ago on front-side.

 

why do people feel that sportbikes are so untouchable? True they are engineered largely for performance but the engineers keep in mind the marketing, emissions, and noise regulations in mind. No street bike is engineered 100% for performance. Just look at your ram air intakes or your catalytic converter and resonators in your exhaust...

OMG do I have a stoopid story.

One nice Sunday afternoon I decide to ride to a friend's house near the beach. So I'm there chillin watchin a game when I get a call from another friend saying him and his bud just got pulled over and they needed someone to pickup his bike or it'll get towed. Obviously that bud didn't have a license.

It just so happens that they were right around the corner so I got dropped off by my bud and his gf.

The bike cop is writing him a ticket then comes around to the plate and frowns. That bud cut off the muffler and welded a 2" pipe at a freaking angle pointing to the left. Like one of those jdm mufflers on a civic or something. The cop goes, "Hey look at your friend's exhaust. It's a nice exhaust. Now come here and look at your exhaust. What the hell is that? It's not even straight!"

Lol. He got clowned on by a cop haha!
