ITR Theft in Foreign countries...Europe/Asia/Africa...How bad is it?
as the topic question says?
Just curious...Is the United States and Canada the only place that suffers from ITR Theft?

Did u see my previous post about my friend's accord SiR-T got stolen in Hong Kong? It's EVEN WORSE there. No screwdrivers, rules and stuff. They use electronic devices to steal a 2002 Mercedes S600 and some other expensive cars, not only sports coupe/sedan like TypeR, Lancer, Impreza etc. They make most money outta those European cars!
re: the title...I would assume the folks in Ethiopia don't have to worry about their ITRs being stolen.
Asia is bad. Taiwan, HK, a lot of cars get stolen there and end up in other Asian countries like Thailand and sometimes HK again.

In Japan, an ITR is just another car on the road...I read once that in some areas, out of every 4 Civics, one of them is a CTR...so its no big deal to have one...I think the biggest car thefts here are of foriegn cars like Mercedes, BMW's, Chevy Astros (yup...I know, but its a hot item here), and all the exoticars....GTRs aren't even worth stealin because they're so common.
Ive heard of a few ITR"s being broken into to steal the recaros, shiftknob and other type R only goodies.
The insurance people hate it when seats get stolen, since these particular JDM recaros must be shipped from japan at over US$5 grand for 2.[no joke!]
Other than that, the thieves are too busy stealing skylines, HSV's and WRX's to bother with a non turbo 1.8 litre front wheeler.
The honda performance market isnt very big here....thank god.
*from oz btw.

Civics are on the top stollen cars. Integras are still very unknow, we only have 150 ITRs in Portugal.

What 'roastbeef' said. If your ITR was stolen here, its more than likely they wanted your seats or ICE. Europen cars are more popular here although the Subaru turbo is the gettaway car of choice.. Its also getting more popular for cars to be hi-jacked while your driving, its in the press alot about people being dragged out of cars while stopped at 'red' lights
I heard somebody on this board who got his Type R stolen and stripped.. only time i ever heard of that happening in Australia.
I think the situation is Australia is pretty damn good compared to the rest of the world, especially since i don't live near any large cities. All they usually do is break into cheap cars with nice stereos and cd players, or joyriders.
Too bad for the WRX's and commo's,
I think my biggest concern here is the ridiculously low speed limits, ridiculously strict vehicle laws, poor insurance policies for younger drivers and the list goes on..
As for the JDM recaros, when i enquired about them they were meant to be over $4500 Australian dollars for EACH SEAT... which is, oh yeah, bout $5 grand US you were right

there is no way one recaro seat would cost $4500 Aus

In france, it must have about 500 ITR on the road, so very few must be stolen
(i've never heard of an ITR stolen in France)

Well in Iceland we have like 6 ITR´s and there are really really few carthefts here
but there is more possibility of someone breaking into some cars and stealing the Cd players or something like that.
oh yeah and 2 weeks before i got my Red ITR someone stole the Red H emblems of the car at the car sale...

It's more than that, because when they gave me this quote it was done in a rush and without all the necessary parts to assemble the complete seat.
I later emailed them and got this as a reply.

Easton, We had a look at the seats and the price is $7500.00 for one.
The mags are $3577.00 colour depending, and the momo is $2790.00.
With the momo two yellow colours are listed so you will need a full chassis
number and interior code. We cannot price you on the seat because it
would depend on who was buying the vehicle and what type of seat.

You're right.. they're not $4500, they're even more than that
I wonder how much the DC5R recaros are... probably similar to that i would imagine.
I don't think hybriding is as popular elsewhere.
Before someone jumps in here and says "Not all hybriders are thieves", just think about why ITRs are stolen so much...it's definately not for export. Not all hybrids contain stolen parts, but you can say stolen ITRs feed this market.

Depends on the area you`re living in.
In Germany, the R is not so popular. We may have 1000 or so..
Mine is one of the very very rare heavily n/a modified ones, so there had been a few attempts to steal it. We have lots of gangs coming from Poland. They arrive in intervals of three months, steal cars and parts, return to their home country and rip the cars..
If every part is sold they come back and continue stealing.
The rims of my 2nd car (Azev-E) had been stolen (1000 Euros) and my R had been touched very often at night, but the Viper-alarm warned me in time.
And if you ask me. So yes, I am afraid of theft because my car is very famous in my area.

Well I remember earlier this yr the UK actually tried to start curb grey marketed cars coming into the country that have been stolen in Japan. Now they require grey marketed car check so it checks the cars history if it doesn't have one you could be buying an illegally stolen car which not sure what kind of offense that is in the UK. I know all the big grey market importers do this now instead of just taken someones word on it.
In sydney most thieves target cars like wrx,200sx,skyline gts
rather than hondas (including type Rs) no where near as bad as
it is in the states.
the 3 cars i stated r probably the 3 most popular/affordable sport cars here.

I have not heard of any thiefts in the UK first hand but I expect there are some.
Not a very common car and not that popular. I think Subaru Impreza Turbos get stolen a lot more over here.
