Default ls swapped 90 civic noob questions

I come from the d-series world but a honda is a honda.

My brother just picked up an ls swapped 90 civic. It has a vtecfrog.com obd0 to obd1 conversion harness but the rest of the swaps wiring needs cleaned up.

My question:

Its throwing 2 cels code 6 for coolant temp sensor (fixed last night) and a code 17 vss.

Since the civic has a cable speedo is the pr4 ecu always going to throw a vss code or is there a way to fix it?

Sorry for the noob question but I'm used to swapping d to d not obd0 d to obd1 b

So you have a vss code, but i'm assuming your speedometer still works? If thats the case than for some reason the ecu isn't getting the vss signal back from the gauge cluster. It may be a cable speedo, but within the cluster there is a mechanism that converts that cable reading into an electronic signal. and that signal is what comes back out of the cluster and then goes to the vss input on the ecu. Check behind your gauge cluster and make sure nothing looks out of the ordinary back there

it could be the wiring. cause i had that code before and it happened to be my wiring. i put the wrong wire in the wrong spot. and my gauge cluster was working.

Ill check the wiring. I had the cluster out already because I replaced the coolant temp sensor and the gauge for the temp still isnt working.

Im not sure if the cluster is bad or what. Everything works but the temp. Its no longer throwing a code for coolant temp sensor but the gauge isnt working.

Here are my next two questions.

What wire coming from the cluster is the vss and where does it go on the ecu?

Is there anyway to test the temp gauge? I know the coolant temp sensor is working.
