ok to apply base coat with brush or roller?

i have no spray gun or anything. and im poor haha. what is the best means of applying my base coat in my situation?

I've heard good things on hear from guys who used the paint rollers. Im gonna do it soon. Just as long as you do the basics right it should turn out fine.
