1995 integra ls with 179xxx
i'm about to buy a 1995 integra ls with 179xxx miles on it.
the car is stock/oem and the owner says everything works fine mechanically. i plan on swapping the engine with an itr or doing ls/vtec but not for a while.
he says he'll sell for 3k... is it worth it?

the guy is selling it on houston-imports and says he will only sell it for 3k if i get it off his hands this week because he wants a new dd... said this one was his dd but he wants a newer nicer one...
kinda sketchy about getting it off his hands this week...
should i trust him...
i just bought a seemingly perfect 90 talon tsi awd off h-i and when i got it home the thing FELL APART.. its in limp mode right now and we are about to replace the alternator and check the turbo...
i dont wanna get ripped off again..
on the plus side i bought the talon for 1600 and after parting and selling shell i made 3200...

i would get something with less milage..not that there is anything wrong with that car..but you can find a better deal with a new and less milage integra. the fact that the guy says this week only is kinda sketchy....
yeah and theres an 02 civic ex MT at a local dealership where we have pretty good connections and can prolly get it for 8k... trade my 01 in and prolly spend 1k... but i dont see as much potential in that car as in a teg
that civic will give you less problems in the long run...you might think there is less potential but it all depends on how much your willing to spend. ive seen k20's in those civics and ive seen some really clean ones. if your willing to buy that car at 8k then just wait until you find a good deal on a 2000-01 integra or 01 02 rsx-s. you might get lucky...dont jump on it bec the guy says this week only.
only reason im going for that car is bec its the cleanest old one ive seen and its oem.. and im looking for a stock car so i know someone hasnt ragged the car out...my neighbor is about to buy a rsx-s but idk about them... i'd really like a teg or an eg... tell me what you think about the car

needless to say i dont know much about hondas and acuras... but im willing to learn which is why i joined forums and stuff... if i could find a good deal on a teg or rsx in texas i would do it... and this seems to be best... also its between me buying a car cash, and me trading my 01 civ and then my parents paying the rest... so anything over 3k has to be at a dealership or someone wanting an auto 01civ

I don't know about the integra. I would check it out or take it to someone and have them look it over before buying. Also do or get a compression test and leak down test done before buying.
As for the 02 civic for 8k....IMO that's way to much. You can get a nice GSR for cheaper than that. I picked my 00 GSR up for $6800 with 108,303 on the clock off a dealer on EBay.

yeah... only problem is that eBay usually has a bunch of modded cars and im lookin for bone stock...
i like to know that the car im buying hasnt been ragged on, needless to say that just because its stock doesnt mean it hasnt been ragged on, just a better chance that its a dd... and i want a teg or hatch ssooooo bad, i always have. but everything for sale is modded out the butthole. ehh i really dont wanna pay parents back for a 6k car though lol... hopefully i can get 6 or 7 on my civ... if not i'll just go for the 02 and keep for a dd for a while... its not bad and can be made nice and fast but i have ALWAYS wanted a teg/eg

I understand fully about EBay and I am always leery about buying things on there. I have had good and bad experiences. I got lucky and there really wasn't much wrong with mine other than needing an o2 sensor and some new suspension. Everything else was my preference.
If you really want a teg or hatch and don't want to pay your parents back then why not just keep the car you have now and save up. Once you have a good chunk of change sell your current car and then buy what you want?

umm, don't get anything from that dude. the guy 'needs' a DD in a week?
that just seems shady. I see ads like that on craigslist often and always steer clear.
I bought my '95 LS w/155k for $2500 and it has some fixable body rust, needed a timing belt ( found out after buying ), camshaft seal, valve adjustment, axles, cv boots, and a complete tuneup, and recently found out the struts are blown so all in all i paid more than that.
If you really want this car look it over with a friggin' microscope. $3k is in the cheaper range. Budget for all the crap he didn't bother to fix but didn't tell you about.
I say the most important thing is to look for previous body damage. I'm a sucker and bought two other cars rediculously cheap that had trunk leaks that would not stop.

well i mean just get everything checkdout test drive it and check the motor for oil leaks and the interrior and etc. do a carfax and all that jazz and if everything checks out then iguess grab it.
even if you have to bring friends along just so they can help you look at it.. you might miss something that they can catch.
i went with my friend to look at a EG6 hatch with a swaped b16 and everything lookd good but i noticed that the front end was held up by zip ties and i pulled my friend to the side and itold him about the problems that i myself saw on the car and he decided not to grab it.
just remember, hes in a rush to sell it but dont let that rush you into buying it. if he has a week to get rid of it dont take any shortcuts when your testing everything out. if anything in the car sounds weird to you in any way then just tell him that you'll think about it.

WORD.
I got ripped off on my b18b swap that way.. it was one of those 'i need your money today if you want it' type things and i came unprepared and didn't bring someone knowledgeable about engine markings with me.
I also almost bought a '94 GSR that seemed all good until i fired it up on a second visit only to see huge plumes of smoke come out the back when pressing on the pedal.
It's sad that the honda scene is so friggin' shady.

I would possibly consider it but I bought both my Integras bone stock. I bought my 95 GSR 2 years ago with 122,xxx for $3000. Needed nothing mechanical, had a few scratches and paint is faded a little that's it. I also bought a 94 LS a month ago for $2200 with 145,xxx and needing nothing, great mechanically, interior, and exterior. just a little quarter rust. But both cars run great. If you have the money find something nicer, newer, or whatever. But if you like the car it wouldn't be a crazy purchase.
