Default have bass tubes. what amp?

ok i got a killer deal on two 8" bass tubes with MTX subwoofers. now my question is, what kind of amp do i need to motivate these babies? my friend who knows his HOME audio says i dont need an amp as powerful as i would need with a traditional box. he said a 300W amp would be plenty. any thoughts?

they're 8" MTX subs. dont know too much about the tubes. they have the subwoofer on one end, and the port on the other. not like a typical bazooka with the hump. its a perfect cylinder.
