Books on riding
Total Control - Lee Parks
Twist of the Wrist 2 - Keith Code
And in that order, if you want to read on some basic street survival stuff and basic controling of the bike I would recomend before either book you take a look at Proficient Motorcycling - David Hough

Total Control is a GREAT read.
While Twist is a good book, it didn't work well for me until I heard Keith explain some of his thoughts.
A good book that I recommend often is Sport Riding Techniques by Nick Ienatsch.

The best $40 i've spent on my riding have to be from when i bought Keith Code's "A Twist of the Wrist" and "A Twist of the Wrist II".
I read both books within a day and then re-read them before my Level 1 experience at California Superbike School.

The best book I've found is Sport Riding Techniques by Nick Ienatsch. It's discusses more advanced techniques than either Total Control or TOTWII, so I probably wouldn't recommend or loan it to a new rider.
