Not only is it safe, it will be stronger at the welds. A shop will do it for less than $50 I'm sure.

Those are your two options. Either buy the hasport linkage or modify your linkage. Modifing can be fine as long as the person welding knows what they are doing.
i welded mine and havnt had any problems...although i do have a hasport linkage sitting in the closet haha. but yeah please make sure the welder can actually weld. you wouldnt want that thing breaking on ya.
