Are you serious?? In an honda forum you are deffinitely gonna hear biased answers, but a salesman that used to go to my old job bought the new eclipse V6 about 2 months before I got my RSX. He bragged about it all the time but when I got my type S and spanked him he stopped bragging about how fast it was and started saying that it was slower but looked better than my car.
I raced him from a roll and a dead stop, both up to about 110-120 and I had him by a few cars on both. more from a dead stop.
Also I think Car and driver did a comparison. It had a few other cars in it too, but the RSX was the fastest.

Well like the previous post said you will get biassed opinions about the 2 cars.
Lets see which is better. The last time I checked the eclipse is a SOHC with about 180-190 hp, not to sure, but it puts down about 150-160 hp to the wheels. The RSX type S is a DOHC with 200 hp with about 172 hp to the wheels. The gt is a 5 speed and the type S is a 6 speed. Body ridgity on the gt is not that great, handles ok but is more of a "family car". The rsx type S is more of a sports car.Body ridgity is tighter and handles better around turns on the track. At the time there is more aftermarket for the rsx type S then the eclipse. Plus the newer eclipes which is the gst is not turbo, so I take it mitsubishi made the eclipse more of a regular car then a sports car. I guess they want thier evo thats coming in 2003 to be the main sports car. The best thing for you to do is test drive both cars and decide for yourself.. Good luck..

i definitely agree with f1nal zeros on this one. i have the rsx, so you can see what decision i made.
the eclipse is a nice car..sometime soon they'll be coming out with the gt-s which is suppose to have 220 hp over the currents gt's 200 hp, but were these cars really get us hondas is in the torque 200 hp and 200 lb/ft of tourque, they dyno at about 180+ hp at the wheels....its more of a cruiser...and straight line racer...i've driven my freinds GT pretty hard..the torque is nice, got its fair share of top end, wait till the GT-s comes out , then test drive both....

A family car?!?! NO way my g/f has the gt and it has less room in the back seat then my teg.

GT-S's have 210hp same torque. They upped the comprestion slightly, and I belive the did something to the intake.

the new style eclipse sucks *****. they looks so ugly.
Buy an RSX or better yet an ITR

agreed, and they have less room than a hatch by a lot my friend has on and not only is it slow and not worth the money but it's cramped.

Hell yeah it does. If I could I'd paint my rsx-s championship white, but I like the color now. Maybe in the future. But I still would not mind owning a 97 championship white ITR.. ooohhhh sweeeetttt.. heheh
I personally like Eclipse's look better, and I think it catches more girls' attention than RSX. But you should be the one who decide it, not the people in the forum.

also, the redline is the same.
Well after my Civic got stolen, I had to go through the same decision. Here's what made it an easy.
Better 0-60 = RSX
Better 1/4 mile = RSX
Better slalom mph = RSX
Better lateral acceleration = RSX
Newer styling = RSX
Better Transmission = RSX (6-speed)
Better Reliability = HONDA!!
And of course VTC + VTEC = iVTEC
The only thing the Eclipse had was better financing rates.

It would be fine I guess if it hadn't replaced the only good model mitsu ever brought here. It really doesn't deserve the name Eclipse, and should've been rebadged. Also compared to the RSX-S it blows.
yes the new Eclipse blows...they should have stuck with the inline 4 turbo setup...if they wanted to send us a damn Fwd v6 eclipse, then they should have just sent the FTO...that would have sold alot more, not to mention blow the doors of a RSX-s , and anything else in its class
