Default Civic Si Civic type r

I was wondering about the difference in the 2 engines. They both have the same engine but the Type R version has 220 hp instead of 190 from the Si. They also have a higher compression ratio. How did Honda put out more power with the same engine and higher ocompression ratio? Did they just use a different piston and rings to achieve more hp and compression ratio? Thanks again!

they are not the same motors. the k20 wears many masks.
k20a3, k20a2,k20z1,k20z3, k20R are just some off the top of my head.

the a3 only has a bhp rating of 160 compared to the a2's 180 and the z's 197. thats how the R can be @ 220. little differences between the motors. cam variations, compression, etc...
