so i went to go turn on my car this morning and my check engine light is on. it was running rough at idle so i thought it may have thrown a misfire code. so i cleaned my plugs and wires up.... still nothing.

i went to take it for a drive and see if something was acting up and i cant get over 3000 rpm, it sounds like my rev limiter is kicking in.

has anyone run into this???

 

I just ran into thiss a few days ago. Turns out it was my distributor shaft and what made me come to the conclusion was it started to make a howl noise at about 1500 rpm then I pulled off the cap and had metal shavings everywhere inside the distributor. I changed my distributor and timed it and runs normal again.

 

did it kick into limp mode aswell???

it sounds like my rev limiter is kicking in. my buddy also said the distributor could be the problem most likely. it has been pouring rain here and last night it was mint. so i am going to try taking it off and drying it out.

 

i agree with a bad dizzy.....did you try to check for CELs??

 

yeah that rain might got inside your dizzy so dry it out and check from there, might check your rotor inside also

so it all turns out that my ecu went on it. my buddy came over and we swapped computers and it is perfectly fine. he also hooked up a toggle switch to one of the pin outs and said that when it is off the engine light sould only flash if there is something wrong with it besides the ecu.

so a new ecu is on order. $200 shipped to my door tuned and chipped
