Default My Tire Trailer is done!!

Finally after nearly a week of construction in my living room and getting all the parts, ordering and putting on the trailer hitch and getting the tag, it's done!! This Harbor Freight trailer seems to be built perfectly for auto-x usage, even my 205/50-15 Azenis fit perfectly in between the side and center frame rails. I estimate the total costs just under $400 including the trailer hitch and tag. This should draw some attention at my next auto-x!! I can't wait to get it out on I-95 next month and give it a work out.

Really that bad?? Maybe I should clear them out??

On a test drive today I noticed that it bounces alot with no or a light load. So I was thinking about getting a double decker GTR style wing to mount to the box top for some added downforce to keep the trailer on the road at highspeeds. Would that be rice or not?

As long as your goal is functionality, it's not rice.

mount a gas powered compressor on it and then you can remove the tags/lights.

The wing would be cool but I've also heard some people take one of the leaf springs out to reduce the bounce. Haven't tried it myself, and don't have a trailer, so try at your own risk.

Have you put any weight on it yet? If it still bounces I'd say yeah take out a leaf. Otherwise, with weight it should become softer.

hmmm.. why not put your aziens on the car and drive out there with no trailer?

Save yourself 400 bux (for another set of aziens) and take off about 30lbs of hitch?

Maybe you should mount the Azenis on your trailer, then it'll stick to the road.

I drive on the street with Kumho V700s and Hoosiers.

Azenis are great for daily driving.

yeah, you race in STS which requires the use of DOT approved STREET tires with a treadware rating of no lower then 140.

I just put mine on a couple of days before a race, then take them off after the event.

I was getting ready to read that you are using it to hold some r compound tires or something, and even then, I would just put them in the back seat/ hatch/trunk.

Nice, I just usually run the 032R's and R4 pads on the street.

I thought STS was a "street tire" class. A trailer for more street tires seems like more trouble than it's worth. Unless it's all about the Bling factor, I don't know. Just drive on 'em.

Well I can understand long far away events. Who wants to drive 1000 miles on their competition tires only to get a flat with them?

I personally been running daily for about 4 months with my Azenis on my car, but if I went to Nationals I would prolly do the same I hate changing my tires in the HOT HOT summer weather

You will definitely enjoy the trailer. You get home from an event, unhook the trailer, and you're done unpacking. Conversly, you hook the trailer up and you're ready to go to the event. Always kept me from forgetting things too.

If you tow it without weight on the tongue, it'll bounce, but with the tires on it you should be fine. Most important thing is to keep grease in the bearings... might invest in some bearing buddies. Makes it easier. Also might get an extra set of hubs to carry with you so that you'll never need them.

r2x ~ who has since bought a car trailer, but will still keep the tire trailer for use when it makes more sense.

Wow feel the love and support over here??

Maybe you'll should bust on the people at trailer SM or SM2 cars to events and not just throwing the tires in the back seat. I mean why buy your own helmet when they have loner helmets at every Auto-X?? Why buy magnetic numbers when shoe polish will do just fine??? Why buy $100 racing shoes when $30 wrestling shoes work just fine??? Why buy a Scooby WRX when a 4th gen Civic Si will do better?? Why spend all this money for 120 to 240 seconds of fun once maybe twice a month???

Anyway I wanted the trailer since I was tried of putting my Azenis in back seat and it taking for ever to set up my tent and change tires before check in. Oh sure I could do it a few days before but why risk the chance of getting a flat on the way to an event. Every Auto-X I go to is over 90 miles away from where I live so yeah I could get a flat on the highways. And is it wrong from me to want to keep the tread on my tires for Auto-Xing alone??

So I'll take the abuse but my Azenis will last the full year and then some. Maybe some of you would see my point if you were using $150 KDs for Auto-Xing.

I don't think it's really a matter of where his tire trailered, but where his trailer tired. Next time, try to remember that.

I guess my point is this. You talk about all this time saved pitching tents and such before registration...

But in fact you havent saved anytime, you still need to picth your tent, you still need to change your tires, and now you need to unhitch your trailer.

At the end of the day, you still need to change tires, you still need to put the tent away, and now you have to rehitch your trailer.

And your car is "heavier".

True your aziens will easily last you a full season...... BUT

with $400 smackers you could have gotten another set of aziens and had $120 left over for beer or whatever.

Just my opinion I guess. I just put my tires on the day before the race, and take them off when I get around to it. I drive about 50miles each way to autox and sure there is a risk of getting a flat. But I also still have 400 in my pocket and I can spend less then 170 of that on a "spare".
