best turbo motor
Hey guys,
i am planning to build a turbo'd crx to track race (limerock, pochono) and ocasionally autocross
whats the best motor to start with to turbo?
i was thinking a 1.8l or 2.0l motor to help turbo spool
all input is appreciated
thanks

B20 would need to be sleeved. B16/18 would be better candidates. I was considering turbo'ing my B18C5 for a while. The C5 has great turbo cams, oil squirters, great Rod:Stroke ratio, and good sleeves. If you're looking at 240-300 whp range, that would be a good option IMHO. I have heard if you boost low, you can use stock pistons/rod also, but idk if I'd do it for track, but worth a thought.
i was planning on using vitara pistions to drop compression
better rods etc
different head
maybe even use a jackson racing supercharger
and twin charge it with like an 18g or a bigger turbo and a blower

I would just slap on a 42r and call it a day.

How much you looking to spend? Do you have any idea what it will cost you to start from scratch? I might think about selling my set-up for the right price and save you some time and money if you really want a twin-charged sleeved 2.0
If you are serious we could work something out...if not have fun and good luck

honestly...
a Vitara'd Z6 block with a Y8 head would probubly be my choice for a low budget turbo track build. This would have been my route if I didn't already have a built B16 setup.
Throw a GT28R or RS on there and you'd have a wickedly fast and reliable (if tuned/built well) car.

turbo d16y7+z6 head (I have a whole setup for CHEAP if you want, pistons blocks heads turbo kit fm, ect...)
also a b20b w/ b16 head/gsr head would be great. 8.8:1 compression stock and tons of torque too! YOU DONT HAVE 2 RESLEEVE. run a b20 and have issues with resleeving before you say you HAVE TO. I run fully built b20vtec stock sleeves at 8.4k rpm and have NO ISSUES.

And you're 19 years old? Have you ever turned a wheel on a road course?
Its fun to dream. But hypothetical build threads are nowhere near as educational or productive as spending a year going to every track day and club race in your region. Even just pitting for people willing to buy you lunch. You'll meet people. See things break. Identify the cars that have more problems than solitons. And understand why.
Here's an educational exercise: search the web for the top three twin-charged production vehicles of all time. Then also for the three most successful twin-charged race vehicles of all time. If you come up with one of each that isn't diesel I'd be very surprised. There are reasons for that...

Good luck get Vitara pistons to fit in a 1.8 or 2.0L block. Sounds like you should do a lot more research.

ls turbo would be my choice and in my opinion the best street turbo setup because you stock block 300hp no problem and with the b20 the sleeves are too thin and eventually crack and even if you do manage to blow your ls, they are plentiful and cheap compared to other dohc motors. ls-t all the way

Great advice. Get to the track first then build car later. I get sick of seeing people in cars that far exceed there capabilities and get them into trouble far sooner than if they would have just started slow.
Spend money on safety, driver, car.

Now if only you guys had posted this 5 years ago, I'd be in a completely different situation...
