Default Vibration. Problem with tranny?

Ok, so I have a vibration that happens only when I am giving it throttle. It happens at like 3k rpm or so, and mainly happens in 2-4th gears. Basically the car vibrates through 3-4k rpm and eventually smooths out but it feels like it may be getting worse.

Any idea what it could be? Transmission? Alignment?

I do need an alignment but I doubt that is causing it.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure. My dad is convinced it is something in the drivetrain. Only really happens under load and between 3k and 4k rpm, but it shakes pretty good. Really not sure even where to start.

check you motor mounts, depending on which mount it is, the vibrations could come from your steering, suspension, transmission or the whole front end...

that happened on my 240sx.. it was the drive shaft and the tranny mount that were broken.

My brothers crx did that but soon after he got his skunk suspension there was less vibration. Maybe it's the crossmember or the axles.

could be lots of things.

obvious answers are check axles and motor mounts. even if they are brand new, maybe you didnt tighten them down.

check for loose crossmember bolts. this happened to me personally.

however, the MOST common problem, from what i recall of watching this forum for many years, is its a cracked subframe.

its probably not the transmission tho.

I got an alignment today and the guy is all but convinced it is my clutch. Spring popped out, etc and it does make sense. Guess i'll persue that route.

Its still getting worse I think and I might have a small whine in 2nd gear (that I already had in 4th). WTF is going on? Should I change my tranny fluid? Might help

No i dont think so. I adjusted the clutch yesterday (why not try right?) and it does feel alot better but the vibration isnt better. This happens the worst when im going up hills and only when i hit the gas. This is hat kind of confuses me. If it was the clutch, wouldnt it vibrate whenever the clutch was engaged and not only when i give it gas? SO weird.

its most likely your axles. I have gone through many rebuilt units most are cheap chinese junk. I have had ones with joints that I trashed in only a couple thousand miles. They vibrate in a manner you describe, only under load when the joint is bad. Find some stock oem axles and put new boots on, I have had bad luck with the rebuilds

I went through a couple rebuilt units in a very short time before getting a used oem axle and have not had problems

Sorry to keep rehashing this thread but:

any chance it is engine related? I mean it doesnt feel that way but I guess it could be. I have my small exhaust from my d-series engine still on my car which now has a b16 so its got to be choking off some horsepower there. Make sense at all?

So almost 10 months later i still have the vibration, even after changin the transmission and getting a new exhaust (thought it might be the engine exhaust was getting bottlenecked or something). Went to a honda guy i know that is a subaru mechanic and he is pretty convinced its an axle so i guess this is the route ill go now

the vibration isnt just the engine, its violent. Almost like the car is missing. I think Im just going to replace the pass. axle (seems like its coming from that side), at least for some piece of mind.
