Yup just acquired a Crx OPEN double din (meaning NO double slots just 1 big opening) and the cigarette lighter has the white ring around it for when its in use and the ash tray has a light in it (now all i need is the personal box, since I don't smoke :D)
On the back of this part there are 4 additional wires added. I'm assuming they just need 12v power source and a ground. Perhaps the ashtray lighting needs to be wired up to my dim control some how?
Any input would be appreciated.
I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the 2nd din spot, either equalizer (which I would never use), or some cup holders any suggestions. Its a stock Crx Hf so I do not need any gauges except maybe the Super Mid (for gas mileage purposes).

Ok that is the picture I'm referring, too. If you are use to the USDM one you will know that it only has the 2 wires going to the cigarette lighter.
Cigarette Lighter (USDM):
White/Blue = Power source
Black = Ground
For White Ring around Cigarette Lighter (non-USDM):
Red= ?
Red/Black= ?
Ashtray Lght (non-USDM):
Red/Black= ? *** i accidentally marked it on the pic as red/white**
Black = Ground
Misc one that splices into the Red/Black (non-USDM):
Black/Green = ??
Thanks,
Shane

Yeah that would be appreciated. I am going to check through service manuals to see what i can come up with. I think i got the UKDM which should have it.. hopefully.
OK im %99 sure that the red/black wire under the dash that you want to tie into. It is fed from fuse number 8 on the interior fuse box. It feeds the clock instrument lights etc. Thats the best I could do sorry. It really a rats nest of wires under there from the previous owner. Looks like I found a weekend project

I'm in a similar situation, but thats due to poor quality work from a shop installing power locks in my car
Thanks though. I'll invest a little time on some service manuals and try to figure it out.

How about a pic of your new double din console insert? Is it the one with two single din slots or one big double din?
I'll have to dig up a pic of mine. Its the regular USDM one from an Si so it has the light up ring and ash tray. I modified it slightly so it could hold a double din stereo. I have the Pioneer AVIC-D1 in it. its a pretty nice GPS/cd player. No video but you can add a trunk mounted DVD changer to add video. I wasn't really interested in the video aspect though. looks nice and clean too not flashy very stock looking IMO

It is the Open double din.
Yeah i read about a guy doing what you did. i may end up doing something similiar with the one I have in my car since I hacked it to hell to get some stupid cupholders in there (which were poor quality
)
Just put pictures up of the wiring.

I plan to use the extra stuff since i got it. No need in letting it go to waste :D
I'm actually looking over fuse schematics right now trying to figure out a clean approach.
I'll be sure to inform people of how I ended up doing it.
It looks like the black/green is of no use. the red/black is dimming, and i'm guessing the red is going to be power.
thanks,
shane

Sorry I cant help with the wiring but that red plastic thing (with the black/green wire comming out of it) looks like its one of those cheesy splice connectors. maybe the previous owner tapped into that for something.
you should pull it off and make sure it didnt cut the wire up. I have seen those connectors cut through wires. pull that duck tape off too it conducts electricity.
also I wonder do you even need all four wires?
you could also try swapping your old cig lighter and stuff over to this peice.

Thats what I'm trying to figure out is if I need all of those wires.
I do not want to change the stuff over to this one since i like the options offered with the JDM one.
Good point on the splice part. It doesn't cut through all the way through but it does go slightly into the wires strands.
And its actually electrical tape not duct tape. Wasn't aware duct tape was a conductor.
thanks,
Shane

Ok i taped up the Red/black and the white/blue and put the red wire and the black wire together (as ground) and hooked them up to a battery charger (with a fuse inline) and ashtray light turned on and cigaretter lighter worked. but the cigarette lighter ring did not work.
I am unsure where this red wire would go. I am thinking a switch (light switch?). Red/black obviously goes to dimming (which car radio should have).
I believe I'm going to use a fuse tap and go off of the Crx Sunroof or use the Option male plugs (and use a female clip) and plug into there.
I'll give some updates as it comes together.

HAHA
I'm a retard. I just got done deciding to just got at it and figure it out hands on. As soon as I pulled the USDM one out there was a four wire plug on the back. They have the 2 additional wires needed for this to work!
So its just plug and play. Except I think my white ring bulb is dead so gotta run to the auto parts store for that :D.

I bought the same piece pictured above and just swapped over the ashtray and cigarette light from my usdm console. Probably the easiest way to do it.
DEETZ
I like it. Did you buy it new? If so do you know where I could pick one up.

Why? The JDM one plugs right in with no issues. I know for a fact because I just got done installing it on mine. Plus the JDM one has a nice ring around the cigarette lighter and a light in the ashtray (which comes in handy if you use it for change :D)

He may of had the Si from a USDM they have the light up ring and tray light. Or i noticed in the pic it doesnt come with the ashtray or lighter maybe thats why he switched. heres mine. The guy who owned the car before me ruined the center console plastic so its covered in speaker box carpet until i decide what to do.
And one of my new leather seats (sorry I had to throw it in, I just got them)

its nice but you see i have a oem amber lit cd player but i use a ipod for my music and i dont want to use that FM mod thingy and my friend has the tape thingy for his ipod and it works great and plus i just thought it would be different. you know what i mean
Im just messin'.... Actually its not an oem, its the Pioneer AVIC-D1 and it has Ipod hook up and you see and control everything on the thats on the Ipod screen through the unit. I like it cause its not real flashy IMO i guess some would disagree.
My bad i misread your post i thought you said you thought i had a oem cd player. I was scratching my head on that one. It can play movies, if you spend $350 more on the trunk mounted dvd player. They way i have it you can use gps and play cds. It has a DVD slot but it doesnt work for video just the data disc for the gps. I'm really not to interested in the whole video in car thing. If i really want i can hook my psp up to the video in and watch movies that way but ive never been compeled too. Sorry im rambling.
