Default Are race headers illegal?

I was looking at this one header from clubrsx http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/DCS-AHR6514-p-HTS.html And I noticed in the description that it eliminates the use of the cat converter.. So Im thinking thats not good for smog checks and all.. Is this true?

Im looking for upgrades for my new 03-s and Im trying to keep everything as street legal as I can. Lately all the cops have been pulling me over for bullshit excuses in my old car (93 civic) such as no signaling, 1 (out of 4) tailights out, car too lout, etc.. and make me pop my hood. Ive already coughed up almost $800 in tuner tickets.

Edit: I live in cali too so emissions checks every other year are a bitch here

Ive just installed a AEM CAI and Im looking for the next upgrade.. if its a negative on headers, any tips on what should be done next? Im not looking for a new exhaust system atm, the stock one is good as is.

If you're going to get harassed by Cali cops, then why are you fixing up your car with mods that will get you in trouble?

I don't get it...why break the law, get harassed and have to pay fines just for adding 5 extra HP?

Get an 05-06 RSX-S exhaust and leave the rest of the exhaust system alone. I think the Hondata flash is legal for your car and it'll pass emissions, so that may be a good route to go.

And you better have your CARB paperwork for that intake.

well my AEM V2 has a plate with the CARB # and what not.. (is this good enough, since i dont know if i ever received CARB papers in the box?)

And dude i honestly dont think its worth moding your car since police officer have the right now to look under the hood and search your car if they assume your another street racing driver.

so unless the car is for track purpose dont bother and invest your money some where else. I love cali but i just wish laws werent so hard on people like you and I who like to mod their cars for what ever your motive is.

Race headers are illegal because they eliminate the catalytic converter. You can always weld on a high flow cat onto the race header. And before someone says "That would defeat the whole purpose of a race header", wrong. The longer runners is what makes the power.

That’s true but it still wouldn’t be legal in California.

Technically it is still illegal.... but you may still pass the visual when they see a cat after the header.

California law changed. Now the cops ticket you for a "modified exhaust". Unless your exhaust comes with a carb number(which really only means the company payed a lot of money to the epa for the permit). I'm sure once they pull you over for your exhaust they will find something to hit you with.

Like me, got pulled over for illegal tint. Ended up with a full inspection of my car. Not to mention fix it tickets.

You have got to be joking. California sucks. What would they look for? You are innocent until proven guilty and a police officer is not a certified mechanic, so how could he say something was legal or not by looking at it? That would have to be proved in a court, not on the street. Another reason to stay out of California.
