Default Wingless LS hatch on a GSR

I am wanting to remove the rear hatch on my 01 GSR and replace it with a wingless hatch from an LS with a third brake light. I know that the hatch itself will bolt up, but I am unsure if/how the wiring with the third brake light will work as on my GSR the brake and wiring runs from the hatch to the wing.

Has anyone done this or know how this could worK>?

just take off all the plastic and find out where the wire runs to and connect it... from the spoiler light it will disconnect just after the spoiler in the hatch..

Both hatches have the wiring running from the center of the roof, through a rubber boot, and down one side behind the plastic trim. From there, the wiring either goes through the hole in the hatch to the wing, or it goes over up through a hole in the center plastic trim to the interior center brake light.

I stuck my LED bar from my wing inside my hatch glass where the LS brake light would be, and just run the harness up through a knockout plug in the plastic trim.

So if you get an LS hatch with wiring, it should just bolt right up and plug in. If you have to transfer your brake light harness, then you can basically run it in pretty much the same location.

Now I don't know about the harness plugs, if those are compatible or not. You'll probably need the harness that comes out of the LS brake light, and that may plug into the wiring that runs down the side of the glass.

PatrickGSR94-Thanks-this is the information I was looking (and hoping) for. Do you by chance have any pics of the DIY for the brake light you did-or some pics of it installed in your GSR hatch?

um I think this is the only pic where it really shows... I have another one but it's not uploaded. The LED bar is just stuck in there upside down w/ double-sided foam tape. It hasn't moved in over 6 years since I first removed the wing.

It's actually too low/angle up as it is. If you're in a normal car or lowered car behind me, you can't see the LED's very well.

I've been meaning to raise it up on some kind of custom brackets ever since I first stuck it back there, I just never have gotten around to it.

I also thought about trying to enclose it w/ some plastic stock, because I can see the LED reflect in the rear glass at night, but truthfully, I've gotten used to and I kinda like knowing that it's still working and none of the LED's have gone out.
