304 or 409 Stainless Steel for my Downpipe ?
I can get 409 for cheaper so I was wondering if it is okay to use 409 stainless without any problems later down the line? Car is not a daily driver btw...
Google search first result:
"409 is a titanium stabilised ferritic stainless steel. Although regarded as a general-purpose chromium stainless steel the primary application for Grade 409 is automotive exhaust systems. Its applications are those where appearance is a secondary consideration to mechanical properties and corrosion resistance and where some weldability is required."
You're good to go
Read through this before you purchase though.

It will be strong, but will not be very pretty as it will form a light surface rust over time.
