89 Honda CRX ITA Race Car for Sale on Ebay - Good buy????
I am in the market for a car to start racing with, and stumbled across this CRX on Ebay.
1989 Honda CRX Si SCCA ITA Hondachallenge H4 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW
It looks like a well sorted car, with a good background.
What does everybody think? Does this look like a good buy?
Thanks for you comments...

Depends on what his reserve is set at.... the 5500 bucks it's at right now is a pretty good price going by the pics....
I may be mistaken, but I think that car was in a rollover at the NASA nationals last year. Check on it.
That car has been for sale for a long long long time. I seen it in person at my first event I ever attended back in like '03-04 time frame...and it had a for sale sign in it then.
Maybe people keep flipping it (as in selling it as soon as they get it) but I know for a fact its been for sale for a long long time.
and for as much work that has gone into that car, they sure did forget to put brake fluid in it.

OP, there's a "Race Car FS" thread at the top of this subforum. There are a good number of relatively inexpensive race cars for sale right now.
Less than $10K for a fully prepped, tech passing, reliable, competative, well maintained car with spares is not unrerasonable. For older civics a $5-7K range for good cars is not bad. But there are two main things that come into play;
1. Is that a good deal for YOU?
-Is the car in a class that is well populated and fun to compete in in your region?
-Are you a wrench turner and could get a cheap civic and build it up yourself?
-Do you need a competative car? Is your skill as a driver developed enough where you stand a chance at podium finishes?
-Are you licensed to race yet?
2. Is it a good deal for THIS car?
-Are the frame, subframe, control arms, transmission, engine, etc. in good shape?
-What about the cars history? serious wrecks? roll overs?
-Does it come w/ prenty of spares?
-Is it dead reliable and fully sorted? No DNFs?
-Belts cages and seats all meet current specs and you won't have to dump $1500 in sfety equipment to race it next year?
You could get a bargain racer for a few grand or blow up to $10K (and a whole lot more) on a badass, pretty civic or teg. It is your money, and if you'll be racing much then plus or minus a couple grand won't be the most money you spend in the sport. Get a fellow racer to check it out before you buy.
Other good places to look;
- H-T community
- The local club you plan to race with
- A local service shop that handles race cars (check with the club you want to race with for popular choices)

Like they'll displace that much fluid in a race, right??

That is a killer deal on a dumb fast car. That was not the car that was rolled at Nationals in 2007. If I were in the market for a H4 car I would ****** that car up in a heartbeat. The owner/driver of that car knew what he was doing, he has just moved on to other projects.
BUY IT!!!!
BUY IT!!!!
That is James Evans' retired H4 car. Good car. IIRC- He raced it in (H4) 02-03 then built a twin H1 CRX in 2004.
James has had the car in the back of his shop ever since.
The car is a deal at that price, it would cost twice that to replace. Call him and discuss if you have questions. IMO, bid with confidence.... It's a fast car and James knows what he's doing.
Like others said, he moved onto other things. Drifting.
DYODD.
