Default possible swaps

My brother-in-law blew his motor in a 92 civic sedan. It's a sohc non-vtec. He's on a budget so he can't afford to get a ls drop-out which i thought he should do. Any suggestions, what d-series motors are common swaps that have more power over his stock. If he runs vtec, use the same ecu, just run vtec wires?? Wondering if their is a jdm (zc) motor as well, less miles always a plus. Thanx

Just get a D16Z6 swap, should find whole swap for around 500 to 700 bucks if you look hard enough, that's with good miles too!! It won't be too impressive in the sedan, but it will be way better than stock. Get the complete swap...or, just get a vtec head and slap that on your block, this would be cheap, and you could build up the engine he has now with some ZC pistons for higher C/R

Thanx, can I use the stock ecu with the d16y6?? The tranny he has is still in good shape will the gear ratios work well with this motor, I assume it will bolt up because they are both d-series. How about a d15b or a zc 1.6, this was recommended by Steve at Hondamotorsonline, your help is much appreciated

you will need a vtec ecu, or a vtec controller to run a vtec motor.

Emerica,
I didn't blow my engine, but I am looking to upgrade from my stock engine in my 1992 Civic Sedan. Is it possible to slap VTEC heads on a SOHC non-VTEC? E-mail me if you can at: crazeone69@aol.com I just installed my AEM Cold Air Intake, but either my synchro's, or clutch is messed up, and I just want to replace the motor. It's got 134k, but if you have any suggestions please let me know.
