Like my title says I have a 83mm LS bottom end and a b20 p8r head, i wanna know if anyone has done this or if it is possible cause of the combustion chamber size and the valve size... Just need to know if it is possible and if there are any problems anyone has ran into or if anyone has done it???

first off why??? why would you want to puta b20 head (non-vtec) on a ls non-vtec block??? why not put you a vtec head on. then throw some p30's in that thing and haul some ***. done

ok well in that case how much do you have to spend? i have a b16 head laying around from my jdm b16a. just needs a llittle machine work from retainer breaking.i could price it out to see what it would cost to have repairs done then let you know. but as far as putting a b20 head on your 83mm ls block is pointless. but yeah prolly could do it but the b20 is 84mm. that might be a problem with the combustion chamber? never heard of anyone doing this before.

yes you can just match the head gasket to the 83mm block

see thats what i thought as well, but even if you special order a head gasket from cometic they send you a 84mm head gasket when you have a 83mm block... so my only option for the 83mm is to use a 84mm head gasket... so i should be ok doing this tho... I know this i ordered a cometic and they told me all 83mm bores they use a 84mm gasket... they seal at the same points... but it will work??? remember this is the P8R head...

I got a coulpea questions.

How do you have a 83mm ls block? Is it sleeved or bored?
If you have ls pistons you have to clearence the valve pockets the valves are vtec size on the p8r.

To the person who said use the 83mm gasket.
How can you put a 83mm gasket on a 84mm head, the p8r head is for the b20 and has 84mm chamber i think?

Go lay a stock gasket on the block and see.

Now I ask you again you have a stock size gasket on a head with an 84mm chamber?

the stock ls block is 81mm. and yes the b20 is 84mm. i dont see how you could run an 83mm headgasket on a b20 head you wouldnt have very good coolant flow at all. the coolant jackets would be like half way blocked??but its your motor you do what you want. do you have another car to drive? i just dont see spending a 100 bucks on a cometic only to change out the head or something. just my 2 cents though.

wow... if you read you would see i am going to use a b20 gasket, which matches a ls block just fine... i am not worried about the coolant, i am wondering if the combustion chambers and bigger valves will be a problem... now if you actually know please give some input... Thanks!

no matter what bore size you are it will work i am building a p8r head right now with crower 404 cams and dual springs with ti retainers your coolant passages are all the same its the same as an ls head cept the chamber size and valve size and i am putting it on a 82mm bore b18a with rs machine p73 pistons ... and your gasket works fine as long as its not a smaller bore...it does work
