Default F22A head on F23A block?

Hey guys,

I just picked up a 93 EX CB... only thing is it's burning oil. From what it looks like, I either have bad valve seals or bad ringlands. Either way it doesn't pay to fix when I can get a motor for cheap

I was thinking of getting another F22A, but then I looked on Ebay and car-parts.com and F23As are going for the same price. The thing is I don't want anything to do w/SOHC VTEC and the F22A head has better flow, plus I can swap all the head stuff over no problem. I have an F22A6 head from one of my last cars that I know is good.

So my question is, is there anything different between the F22A and F23A blocks as far as swapping? I.e. the mounts are the same, I can use the F22A timing components etc.? I figure if I can get a bottom end w/50K or so on it with higher compression & displacement why not?

what do you hope to accomplish????? Fast running car, race car, turbo it or what. Doing a Frankenstein work takes time and money, F22 engine is about $550.00-$650.00. Unless you are doing a project cars then you would want to but F23 are newer car, the head bold wont line up. F22 block has better compression and handle boost.

well thats kinda funny when about 3 months ago i lined up a f22a4 head gasket to a 99 f23 vtec cylinder head AND EVERYTHING IS THE SAME

THE DIFFERENCE IN DISPLACEMENT IS FROM STROKE 1mm bore

F22A BORE 85.0 STROKE 95.0 8.8:1 CR
F22B1 BORE 85.0 STROKE 95.0 8.8:1 CR
F23 BORE 86.0 STROKE 97.0 9.3:1 CR

YES IT WILL WORK, BUY A HEAD GASKET N FIND OUT

about the motor mounts, i dont know there

i'm putting the F23vtec head on my f22a4. n i'll have 10:1 custom cp

it will work fine. just pull the oil plug from the older block and install it into the f23a block.

I have the F22A head sitting in my garage and can prob. sell off the F23A head

F23A has higher compression which is what I want... this will be a daily driver

What I plan to do is a Bisimoto Stg 2 cam, H23A IM, OBX/MR header & tune... very light work... but the F23A block would make for more power and better gas mileage

In any case this is good, if I can find an F23A block for cheap I will go with this rather than try and diagnose a problem on a dying motor

lol your doing the exact opposite of mine.

If u have the time port n polish that intake, i had about five hours in mine.
all you need is a drill, some flapper wheels ( ithink i spent about 20$ at oreillys) and die grinder.
and etxtension to get all the way down the runners

non vtec blocks should have a oil plug between cylinder 2,3 at the back of the block on the deck surface. pull it from your old one and install it into your new one.

F's didn't even have VTEC when the F22A was around... I have a junked F22A at home though so I will check that out.

they still had the oil orifice, and thus the plug.
