Then post what they tell you in here so that perhaps the next time someone in Illinois is asking about it they might search and find this information. Granted by then the information might be outdated.

dude i have a rhd del sol that im doing right now. most dmv s are not gonna give the help you need. it needs to be either titled as a kit car { like a dune buggy or fiberglass street rod} or you need a donor.there are alot of people on here sellin and or parting out wrecked cars so a title and dash vin and you can go with that .if your state has inspections now that will be a bad problem. im in alabama and we dont have any inspections. one thing if you go donor make sure the title is not salvage or any liens . good luck bro

Using another car's title and VIN are bad, bad, BAD ideas. Fraud ftl.
If your VIN ever comes into the spotlight for whatever reason, even theft, then you could end up in some more trouble.
Try to do it right the first time.

its all about what state your in and the laws...some states you can not register a RHD car period....dont go swapping VINs like NOFX said, you find yourself on the wrong end of the stick on that one...just double check the laws with the DMV and post your findings
This may or may not apply to you, but in new brunswick canada, and most of the rest of canada as well if i'm not mistaken the car must be at least 15 years old first, other than that its just registered like any other car. A good friend of mine just bought an EG6 SiR-S, no problem for insurance or anything, costs the same as any other civic. If it was a regular civic converted to right hand drive though, seriously reconsider your decision. the novelty of a RHD car does wear off. Its a pain in the *** to drive, its difficult to pass and drive thus are all but impossible without a passenger. I can kind of understand buying a something like an SiR where that trim level just wasn't available here, but other than that i just don't see the point.
lol, what about when you find yourself driving on the middle of the yellow lane? How about the drivethru at mcdonalds? They already cant hear you on the left side imagine on the right!
Depending on the car, you may not have any problems registering it. If it's converted you aleady have a US VIN so it's as easy as going to the DMV and applying for title/registration. When's the last time someone at the DMV actually gave a **** and wanted to see the car? Mine's a converted 1992 Si registered, titled, insured, and driven under the original VIN. Since IL repealed OBD1 and older emissions you won't ever have to go for inspection/emissions anyway.
If it's an out-of-market car then you don't have the luxury of a US VIN and you WILL have to contact/work with the DMV.
My friend registered an imported S15 Silvia in Texas. He bought it from a company in California that had already titled it. All he did was go to the local dmv and registered it, hasn't had any problems yet.
I live in IL too, but I do not know the laws about registering an imported RHD vehicle. I know it is legal in Wisconsin to register/drive a RHD car.
We are lucky in Canada though, it's very easy to register any rhd car after 15 years

Here's a pic of the 92 Celica GTR i had, great car!!

there is a such thing as JDM RHD automatics??? lmao
i live in chicago too, at least its not as horrible as cali.
if any of you know josh at Top Speed shop who has the r34 skyline and the GTR.
