Default calipers look ugly

I've just bought new rims but they make my rusty calipers pretty exposed. I'm not gonna buy any new ones as I'm quite happy with the stock ones. I know I can paint (or powder-coat?) them but I've been thinking they'd look awesome if chromium-plated. What d'ya think, would they fade or shell off because of the heat? Would nickel work any better? Has anybody tried it?

The calipers are probably just covered in brake dust that has accumulated over the MANY years our cars have been around now lol. Check out what this guy did by just cleaning them: http://www.preludeonline.com/f...34536/
