Default 93 h23 piston broke i think

so i finally got everything out of the way and got my head off, pulled the oil pan off, got everything done and finally FINALLY pulled the pistons out to change the rings and i ran in to two problems......uno....my motor is bored over so my pistons are larger and i dont know what size rings to get and i am clueless as to how to find out what size they are......two.....on the same spot on every piston in between the top two rings for about two inch going around its a different color....the majority of the piston at the top is a dark color but this part is chrome color and on every one of them broke off as i was pulling the rings off ...... its weird because its the same EXACT SPOT on every piston.....are they supposed to do that i mean i guess the "broken" piece kinda stays in if i put the old rings back in around it but i dont wanna put these pistons back in if they're [freak]ed up.

Post a picture, .. sounds to me that you have broke your piston ringlands.

Edit: .... How do you know that your cylinder walls are bored over ? If you went in from the bottom while the block is still in the car, then from your view the piston would be a few millimeters smaller in diameter than your cylinder walls .. this is normal. The piston rings are what seals the distance between the piston and the wall.

Edit 2: .... Your pistons could not be larger than your bore on the block. If that was the case then the piston would not even fit in.

That would mean that your block is bored to 91mm w/ some custom pistons, Not realistic at all for the h23a1. Tell your guy he Lies.

In your situation I would get a digital caliper and start measuring ****.
