Default ITR w/205's

Just realized that the Falken Azenis are pretty bald, and would have loved to purchase another pair, but they seemed to have gone out of business. I had originally purchased a set of the Azenis, because they seemed to grip really well for simple street apps.

Could someone recommend a few high performing 205's for the ITR?

Thanks.

Happy to see that Falken is still producing a form of Azenis.

The worn pair I have on the car right now are the AZENIS ST-115, but I haven't used the newer RT-615's. Are there opinions on these?

I always said I'd give S03's a shot, but I'd like to hear opinions about some of the better tires available to us. I don't have a problem driving carefully in the rain, and that usually isn't too much of a problem in CA.

Browsing the archives, but would appreciate any input on the top offerings.

yeah it seems you might have confused the old design with the new version..
it just depends on what you expect out of a tire.
me personally i like something i can use all year with good grip and in the rain
ive used the old azenis before and i liked them alot good grip and cheap, only complaint is they made my steering ""response and quality seem sloppy"" which ive heard that from other owners in the past.
ive been using the bfgoodrich g-force kdw2's for 4 years now mostly due to a high tread wear of 300(on the same set) i would definatly get a set again, but ive been thinking of getting the bridgestone reo1r's...hope this helps out

The 615 is a MUCH stickier tire than you have been using. If rain isnt an issue for daily driving then get em. You will not be disappointed with their performance, especially for the costs but the treadlife will be less than your current ones.

I guess I am just getting old, not like you youngsters!
Got used to my daily driver CRV so for the 1 st. time today in driving a long distance trip since maybe 4 years ago, I felt so tired from all the strange noise from these new tires.

I think a few of you are getting your Azenis confused with each other. (Not get RIGHT, though - he GOT it RIGHT.)

The Falken Azenis RT-615 is a supersticky summer tire, still available:

The Falken Azenis RT-215 was the predecessor of the RT-615 and has been discontinued:

The Falken Azenis ST-115 was a really crappy summer tire and has also been discontinued:

I'll repeat the advice I keep giving to folks shopping for tires on the ITR and other Integras:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by nsxtasy &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Roughly 90 percent of the time, people fall into one of the following three categories:

a. People who want the maximum traction on dry pavement, and don't care about anything else. These are usually people who sometimes use their street tires in autocross or on the racetrack or in brisk drives on curvy roads. The best tire for such folks IMHO is usually the Falken Azenis RT-615, which is available in Integra sizes of 195/60-14, 205/50-15, 215/45-16, and 205/40-17, depending on your wheel size, and the Dunlop Sport Z1 Star Spec in 195/55-15. These tires don't last all that long - treadlife of 10-12K miles is typical - and they are only so-so in rain. But if you only care about dry grip, they're the bomb.

b. People who want good traction on dry pavement, but also want good traction in rain and also care about value (purchase price and/or treadlife), and who DON'T use these tires in snow (either it doesn't snow where they live, or they have separate tires or another vehicle for winter conditions). These are usually people who use their tires for everyday driving. The tires I most often recommend for these folks are the Kumho SPT, Fuzion ZRi, and Yokohama S.drive, which are available in Integra sizes of 195/55-15, 205/50-15, 205/45-16, and 205/40-17. I recommend the Yokohama ES100 in 195/60-14 for those with 14" wheels. All of these tires have very good grip on dry pavement, are excellent in rain, and last a reasonably long time (25-40K miles).

c. People who need to use the same tires in snow during the winter as well as in moderate to warm temperatures the rest of the year. These folks need all-season tires, which are a compromise; they have the flexibility to be used in a wider range of weather, but they're not as good in winter as true winter tires and they're not as good the rest of the year as summer tires such as those mentioned above. For these folks, I recommend the Kumho ASX in 195/55-15, 205/50-15, 205/45-16, and 205/40-17. For those with 14" wheels, I recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position in 195/60-14.

All of these tires are reasonably priced, and are the best you can get for your money in each of these categories, IMHO. You can get them shipped from places like Tire Rack, Discount Tire, and Vulcan Tire.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Any questions?

The following seem to be considerations at the moment:

Falken Azenis RT-615 (205/50VR15)
Bridgestone Potenza RE040 (205/50VR15)
Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 (205/50ZR15 or 205/50VR15)
Yokohama A022H1 (205/50ZR15)

Opinions on the others above? +/- 's?

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want the best traction on dry pavement, and you don't care about grip in rain or treadwear, it's an easy choice - get the Azenis. Another excellent choice is the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec in 195/55-15, with even better performance than the Azenis, for about the same price.

As noted above, if you also care about traction in rain and/or how long your tires last, I recommend the Fuzion ZRi ($73 in 205/50-15) or the Yokohama S.drive ($82 in 205/50-15, $68 in 195/55-15). Compared with these two, the Michelin PE2 is a tiny bit better, but it's so much more expensive ($123) that I don't think you're getting a whole lot for all the extra money you're spending.

I don't recommend the other two tires you mention, because they are designed as OEM tires for specific cars - the RE040 to be used on the rear of the Toyota MR2 Spyder, and the A022H to be used on the front of the Acura NSX (and on specific front corners on the NSX). When tires are designed for a specific car, they often don't perform as well when used on a different car, especially when the other car has a different configuration, drive axle, weight, etc. You'll also notice that the A022H is on closeout at the Tire Rack, and they only have right-side tires available, no left tires.

Yeah, some things have changed since I wrote that post over two years ago. The RE010 has been discontinued; it and the S-03 are no longer available. The ES100 is still available in some sizes, but not in the 15" sizes we used, for which the S.drive has replaced it. The DZ101 has gone up in price, so I recommend the ZRi instead. The MX is being phased out; later this month, Kumho will be introducing the Ecsta XS, a tire to compete with the Azenis and Star Spec. And of course the Star Spec wasn't available at that time, so the Azenis was then the only logical 15" choice.
