Default RHD yes or no

was thinking about going RHD in my 91 si Hatch.

would this be a good idea or not. would be the only RHD honda in town if i were to do it and complete it.

also what is the difficulty factor on this conversion?

It's a firewall and steering rack swap, then get a new pedal assembly for the rhd conversion. If you're just doing it to be the only guy in town with a rhd car, why not put 24" wheels on it at the same time? I'm sure you'd be the only guy in town with them on a crx.

If you're good with a plasma cutter (or REALLY good with a die grinder) and a welder, it's a three-day-weekend project. I completely disapprove of rhd swaps, as they serve no purpose whatsoever. It's like putting Si-R emblems on your USDM CRX or putting carbon fiber vinyl over your hood to make it appear to be carbon. If a car is clean/fast and happens to be rhd, well, that's sweet. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to change something so trivial. Just my .02, I'd still want to see pictures of the project, and I'd still cheer you on just the same!

Does the car have a clean title to it? If so I would say keep it stock as it would be more rare to have one in a clean state.

RHD = if you have a bad title, want to be SLOWER as you re-learn to shift, never want to go through a drive-through the normal way, and have a blind spot *every* time you get onto the highway.

Other than that it's cool. Oh yeah, cost too sux.

dont do it. its not worth it imo. sure it looks cool and all but it can be a bitch with blind spots. my friend has a skyline and i have drove it many of times. alot of fun at the track but in rush hour those blind spots are a killer! just keep you car lhd and keep it clean. just my .02

NOt worth modding, but its a hell of a lot easier to organize your paperwork and pick one up here in Canada, we have lots of them. Here's an example of one that just landed.

But how would someone go about getting that car into the states? It seems almost impossible.

I think I have came to the conclusion the next car I buy I am importing. It's the real deal. You don't have to cut a car in half either. Better yet, it will already have all SiR stuff!

my opinion.

if a car is offered in the US and obtainable, then its pointless to get the RHD version in the states. i.e. a 92 civic hatch back.

if a car is not offered in the states, and is only offered in RHD, then go for it. i.e. a skyline.

i own a skyline myself, but i live in japan, and drive on the left side of the road so it makes sense.

btw, real rhd cars have the blinkers and windsheild wiper controls on opposite sides. have fun hitting your windshield wipers when you switch lanes. i know i did at least twice.

my opinion on CONVERTED RHD cars? ******* joke. trying too hard. spend your money on going faster.

haha i did that one the first time i drove a skyline....and it took a bit to getting use to shifting with my left hand. missed second a couple of times. i dont see the point to importing a older car when you can buy new.

yeah rhd doesn't really make sense in the states...
but i am jealous of the canadians. i used to live near Buffalo/Niagara Falls, and i've visited a few times. universal health care, relaxed reefer laws, and unrestricted import cars all sounds like paradise to me!

Being the owner of one currently for sale I would say its all up owner as if they want to go through the trouble of converting a car/ purchasing a true right hand drive car. Sure it gets more looks than my brothers NSX but if its practical for a daily driver in the states I would say no. No drive through food, strange blind spots, and hard to see others when pulling out of intersections makes it a weekend/ good day driver.

Its up to you. I like RHD dont let people tell what to do. Search its been covers on how hard its to do. On people saying you can shift faster really? Um, ok so people in Japan cars are slow. And he has a 1991 Si hatch and crx

I keep hearing about the blind spots. Come on guys this isn't an suv or an accord it's a hatch and there are little to no blind spots on the car. It might take some getting used to but other than that why not do it if you want to be different. Don't know about it being worth the money but it's your car do what you want. Oh and is it so bad to go into the fast food joint instead of the drive through

There are some but you get used to driving and to check for them. Like doing a U-Turn from the side of the street. Or making a left hand turn at a big intersection with other cars in the opposite turn lane in front of you. Sometimes you have to let the passenger tell you when its clear to go, or lean way over so you can see. You will get used to it fast. I looked at the blind spots when switching lanes every time just in case.

I never wanted to eat food or have that smell stay in my clean car. I always go in to eat even with the LHD just because I don't want to clean an accident up. Or just go through with someone and have them order for you.

RHD is pointless. Move to another country or something. Jesus, when will this **** end?
