Pros and Cons between single cam and double
I just purchased a 97 Honda Civic hatchback cx that i want to add some pep in it, and with the economy the way it is money is a little tight so i cant do a mojor swap was thinkin of takin my d series and addin a d16z6 to add vtec and a turbo to add some pep to it or should i just save my money and save for an ls swap? i can do a single cam swap with turbo faster cuz it cheaper and i have friends selling the parts i need, i wanted to know how far i can take a single cam horsepower wise and performance wise apose to a dohc, just wanted to know and learn something and help me make a decision
this has been discussed soooooooooooo much. Please read the FAQs/
SOHC:
Cheaper than dirt. Literally.
Good fuel mileage stock
Reliable
Make almost no power
Expensive to make power
In turbo applications, modification of the oil pump/oiling system is usually required
SOHC VTEC is pretty weak.
DOHC
More power
More potential
More aftermarket support
Shorter transmissions
Stronger parts (on the good B-series engines)
Reliable
VTEC lobes for intake and exhuast
More expensive
Worse fuel mileage
Higher chance of theft

you can push about 250 to the wheels with a stock d series turbo, if you have a nice and proper tune........ and it could be reliable.
if you're friends already have the parts, make sure they arent bullshit and go for it.
You can spank stock b series and save gas duing it....
But if you have the cash a swap is ideal in a long term perspective.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
The only advantage of a SOHC is the price and sometimes gas mileage. The DOHC does everything else better.
Dont argue, SOHC weirdos. It's true.
