Default Discussion, Not flame war... EG vs. EK

This has probably been debated as much as Toda vs Jun or Spoon vs. Mugen, but im just curious to hear everyones opinion on the benefits and drawbacks of both.

I personally own a 2000 hatch but i love EG's just the same. On the board I notice a bias towards the EG and just want some clarification. Im sure its due to the obvious... weight, cost, interchangability with integra parts, etc.
Also what do you guys think as time goes by. Do you think the EG will fall by the wayside as the new civics become more popular? Will the EK take the EG's place as R&D develops newer/better parts for the EK?

Peace,
brian

I think a lot of people prefer the looks of the EG hatch...Personally i like them also but i also really like the way the EK hatch looks....I think that people woll continues to hook up both of these cars and come up with new ideas as time goes by....

I'm definitely a bigger fan of the EG's.

They're just sexier. Their eyes and faces are way more agressive, and the back end doesn't look as dorky.

I've had me eg hatch for 3 1/2 years and I still enjoy the look of it. I especially like the ease of swaps after doing my b18b and the interchangable parts between different platforms.
You can't beat the light weight of the 92-95s (cx rocks).

In the ek's defense and IMO, the interior is a bit more refined.

Are we talking looks or performance? I have a EK now but have had two EG's.

The EG has a much better steering rack then the EK.
The EG is lighter then the EK.
The EG can use most 94-01 Integra parts, only a few parts work on the EK.
The EG has better seats.

I belive the EG will be the better performer with the same mods.

EG's look so damn hard slammed with a nice set of rims and a duckbill wing. It brings a tear to my eye... sniff sniff...

Yes Yes EG really ='s EH and EK's really = EJ but for the sake of simplicity I just call them by there most commonly known abbreviations.

I very much enjoy my interior. I think everything thing is pretty well ergonomically placed and besides the fact that my center console is in two pieces due to a break in I think it actually looks good too.

As far as cosmetics i think they are just two different beasts. The EG (EH - C5_ALLMOTOR/purist friendly) looks like an egg to me too. The back end is round just like the EK (EJ ).

Just think of what the guys were saying back when the EG(EH) first came out. I mean compared to the 4th gen hatchbacks the EG looks like a space ship. (not a flame so dont anyone go get all huffy)

Like i said i personally love both. I have a 2000. My bro-in-law has a 95si. Scattered among my group of friends are several 92-00 hatches and there is nothing but love for all of them. Unique in their own ways.

One, a JDM wet dream. You guys with your option stickers would drool. He's got that and then some. Old school honda in semi-cursive. Plus an Autobacs sticker to top it off (a little diddy he picked up while in Japan a while back).

Another (95si), my bro-in-law, stripped of everything and painted pheonix yellow with black 95gsr wheels to boot.

Anyways. Good responses so far. Keep them coming.

for me the decision is 90% COST.
I like my EG and the money I saved buying it instead of an EK got me a head start in going Hybrid.

But if anything happens to my EG I will look hard to find a EK for cheap so that I can swap everything over to the EK. I always have liked EK's since they are a little more refined but still wicked nice for Hybrids.

I love both, but if i was gonna get one I'd probably buy the EK. Convert to type-r and call it a day .

It's mostly preference. The EK's have different suspension geometry in back, but I haven't driven an EG enough to tell the difference.

The EG's will always be faster out of the box with the same mods simply because of weight. But we are talking less then 150lbs on average.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. I love my EK, but would love an EG as well.

it's all personal preference. i like both, but an EG/EH that's done right looks tough.

I think the EK's are better looking stock than any EG. I could drive a stock EK for a while with no problems(and I did), but if i were driving a stock looking EG, It would HAVE to have some kind of motor swap to make me feel better.

keep in mind i dont own a hatch yet, most of my impressions come from the passenger seat =/

to me... the EK just looks better stock, i dunno why people hate on the taillights, i think they sexy.

I will be purchasing an EG though, as I am on a budget, not a fan of OBDII, and i wan to build more of a sleeper with this one..

I see a lot more riced out EH's than I do EJ's..the reason is simple- cheap. The reason I have a 94 Si is simple- vtec and rear disc brakes. I can use Integra parts, which is nice!!! I like my car a lot, but I hate the looks of stock EH's, with the saggy rear end and all ..But I'm starting to like EJ's a bunch!! If I had the money, I'd get one as well. This guy in town has a 98 Silver hatch, with a B18C1 supercharged, with a 10 pound pully, running 12.6 full interior, and it looks HOT!! I love them all, any Honda, but EH3 Si is what I have, and it grows on me even more every day!!

EH benefits:

Cheap (well, they are older, they have to be cheaper)
Light
Lots of aftermarket parts
Able to swap in OBD-I AND OBD-II motors.
Less airbags to remove in the 92-93 cars.

EJ benefits:
Newer
Less demand for the existing cars out there
OBD-II switch in less complicated, but ALSO complicated by OBD-II and OBD-IIa (downside there, huh)
Better bushing design in upper control arms
Better dash design

I love my EH. I could never trade it for an EJ straight up. From equal footing side by side, though, EH's have all the advantages. This may change later, as the tuner market is fickle and tends to satisfy current trends, but we'll see.

I like the EK coupe best, and the EG hatchback best as far as looks go. I dont care much for either in sedan form, and really dont like the EG in coupe form.

I think the best advantage of the EG, is how much cheaper it is, but you still have a huge aftermarket, and a plethora of Honda parts/engines to choose from.
