My ep3 barely didnt pass smog. It has a brand new cat on it. Im thinking it didnt pass smog because the engine wasnt getting hot enough, in turn not getting the cat hot enough. My Ep3 has about 149,500 K on it. My temperature gauge, with the engine fully warmed up, reads just a little above a 1/4. Is this normal or do I need to change the thermostat? What does your Ep3 read at when warmed up?

 

I wanna say mine is higher than just over 1/4 on the gauge. Your t-stat might be stuck open not allowing it to fully warm up and in turn also could be giving you crappier gas mileage than you might get as well.

Pull it off and put it in a pot of water and boil it. See what temp. it pops open. I know our K series t-stats aren't cheap.
