bb6 egr cleaning
so i finally got a day off and decided today was a good one to clean egr system
went to lowes spent little over $10
bought:
3' stick of 10-24 all-thread
Kobalt 10-24 tap and #25 drill combo pack
2 10-24 nuts and a big washer
went to honda spent $4.50 on the 6 plugs #17199-pt3-ahm
got home
disconnected battery
took the coil off (make sure get the washers between coil and mounting bracket.. easy to miss)
took fuel rail off and moved out of way (had to take fpr off also)
took the egr valve off
took my #25 drill and drilled first plug
i rigged up my shop vac to a funnel so the end was about 1" in diamiter, nice for tight spots like this job has
held my vac funnle right up next to plug as i drilled
then took my tap and taped the plug as a vac'ed all the shavings
then i took my all-thead and threaded it into the plug in the manifold
took a heavy as hell massive 2" socket on a 1" drive and slid it over the all-thread
put my nut on the end, then washer, then another nut to make a stop for me to slam my massive 2" socket up against
and after about 4 wacks the plug was pulled right out
did this on all 6 took me about 2 hours to drill, tap, pull, and replug
the vac funnel was best for when i had a port unplugged to stick it right over the hole and suck out all the carbon crap after i had broken it free w a coat hanger
the car smoked a bit after i finished cuse all the carbon broken free in the manifold, but after a short drive, it feels like it can breath more easy and no more cel!
i could post some pics if anyone wants em...
