Default Some DC race weekend observations (possibly pics to follow)

1) The Saleen S7 is so badass looking in real life it could be orgasm inducing

2) The Olive Garden 550 Maranello sounds so sweet it could be orgasm inducing

3) Randy Pobst is a funny SOB. He sat with me during the Touring car race while we watched the one blue Mazda slam into the wall and catch fire, yelling, "Get back in, it's still driveable! What's wrong with you?!?"

4) Chicks dig racecar drivers. Just ask the three hot chicks who stopped by Roger Foo's pit a few times. When they stopped by the last time on Friday, when he had already left, I had to tell the disappointed girls that he was gone. Their first question - what hotel is he staying at? Unfortunately for Roger, I didn't know.

5) I don't know a damn thing about crewing for a race team, but Roger didn't seem to care. He told me I was only there for entertainment value.

6) Sponsors are cool.

7) Lots of NASA racers/drivers go to these events. Off the top of my head I saw Alex Ratcliffe, Chris Cobetto, Jason Meise, Payton Wilson, Jon Boxwell (even if he hasn't raced NASA in a couple of years), Mike DeFord, Chuck Reyes, Rachel Brady, etc.

8) Touring drivers are insane. I mean, 6-wide into turn 1?!?

9) Going to DC was SOOOOOOOO worth the trip!

Did you see under the skin at all? A peek at the headlights only gives you a glimpse of carbon (which in itself is badass) but looking in the open doors/engine compartment...I could barely contain myself in the garage at Watkins Glen...check it out:

Damn Bookler I was looking for you but I never saw you the whole weekend. The only people I saw were Pat and 5 or 6 MMsports people. And we didn't have any groupies (I guess winning would help with that eh?).

Did anyone catch the Trans Am broadcast? Did you notice that the sponsor commercials were a little um...goofy?

Observations:
-Will Turner is a baller
-What was up with the Tripoint Mazdas having swiss cheese rear brake rotors
-All you can eat sushi after a day at the track is actually not a bad idea
-Red Bull must've given out several thousand dollars in free product. They were very smart to lock down their Chevy Tracker ice chests...
-IMSA emergency vehicles has nothing on NASA EV. NASA EV could have cleaned up all three full course caution wrecks (in touring) in the time it took IMSA to clean up DuPont's
-With the bumping and grinding in touring car sooner or later there will be post-race fights. Every team should bring a pit bouncer.
-V8's are kool, Proteges make my ears bleed, street courses are hot

Bimmerworld moved from 29th out of 45 to 14th, a pretty good result for a car that is minimally altered from ITS. Road Atlanta and VIR should be even better since are drivers have done those tracks many times.

Touring car ownz!

Due to some complications I was only able to make it for Sunday, but it was definately a lot of fun. I saw quite a few NASA/Auto-X people as well when I was roaming around the grandstand and general admission areas.

That touring race was awesome, but good lord those guys are nuts!!! I'll have some pics to post of the race later, but I definately gotta admire some of the drivers attempts at weight reduction mid-race (Lockwood & Harvey).

Matt L - who realized this weekend: Hot chicks really do dig race cars, but apparently only when lots of money and sponsors are involved otherwise all these biches would be comin to NASA events.

good to see you there Matt -

2) The Olive Garden 550 Maranello sounds so sweet it could be orgasm inducing

yes, hands down my favorite car there ........ well the R8's ruled too and the caddys ..........ok,ok I like em all

seeing the Realtime cars and meeting Foo was one of the coolest things I've donw this summer

me - are you Roger?
foo - yeah, whats up
me - holy **** , your ROGER FOO
foo - aw,comeon I'm just a normal guy
me - HOLY **** man , your Roger Foo

those realtime guys thought I was crazy for crawling under the back of the car and snapping pics of everything , then they tell me this car has the SMALL rear bar

they should , go look at the BIG one

summary - evidentally a 1 7/8" rear sway bar is SMALL
- I thought I was watching BTCC or something ...... those guys hit the **** out of each other
- turn 5 rules IF you can see over all the press photo guys
- "kaptain Kineivel" sucks at life , what a waste of time
- carbon fiber EVERYTHING rules
- if you have a rear bumper cover or taillight flapping and hanging off the back of your car you can go at least 4 laps without doing anything about it

probably more but I'm still tired from sunday .............

hey Bookler what happened to Foo ? after running up over the gators the 1st lap I didnt see him again

Jamie - who LOVED sunday and the ALMS, but really wanted to see the touring race also

Matt, if they were the girls I am thinking they are, 2 of them were 16 . they were walking around with a guy in a JUN shirt and i think held some flags for one of the teams (maybe Roger's) on Sunday. i found out they were 16 because the guy they were walking around with was a friend of mine, and i inquired why i wasnt introduced to them . i meant to come up and introduce myself to you but you were talking with other people at the time and the guys i was with wanted to go watch the Trans-Am race. weekend was awesome, pics will be up sometime this week

I was watching from the grandstands at the start of the front straight. Foo's camera (on the inside) was on the screen as he came out of T1, and it looked like he got hit and punted into the outside wall. Drove off the track at T2 and out of harm's way.

Take his word for it, he is just a normal guy - and a damn cool one at that. I had a great time just hanging out with him in the pits, and watching the races with him. Besides, if he wasn't just a normal guy, do you really think he would have *me* helping him in the pits?

hey Bookler what happened to Foo ? after running up over the gators the 1st lap I didnt see him again
basically, he just came into turn 2 too hot and caught the outside wall, which broke one of his rotors badly enough that he couldn't continue. He was very disappointed because he could have had a podium, and circuit city had sent some people there to observe, so he would have liked to have had a good finish for them. It was the first time that he was involved in an incident that was actually his fault, so the poor guy was beating himself up a bit over it. It certainly isn't anything that won't be fixed in time for the next race though....

I thought the same thing until I talked to him after the race. He wasn't hit from behind, he just came in too hot because he was trying to make something happen. He knew he had a legitimate chance to win the race, and he was pushing it hard. Like I said to him, if he was out there driving conservatively, he never would have been up that high. Driving as fast as he does is an all or nothing proposition - and this time he ended up on the wrong side of it. Next time, he won't. I have no question that man will find the top of the podium again, and nobody will be cheering louder than I will.

Matt, if they were the girls I am thinking they are, 2 of them were 16 .
Let's see, one was wearing a red shirt, rolled up to her more than ample chest, and a jeans skirt. One was wearing a blue top, also rolled up to very nice C cups, and also wearing a jeans skirt. The third was a bit taller, was wearing a knit top that showed a red bikini under it. Are they the ones? If so, the one in blue was DEFINATELY worth going to jail for!

i meant to come up and introduce myself to you but you were talking with other people at the time and the guys i was with wanted to go watch the Trans-Am race.
and you didn't interrupt to say hi?!?

Roger is the man! He is really just a normal guy.

Poor Roger. He has had an incredible run of bad luck. I know that he will turn it around. A podium is just around the corner!

It was a real good weekend here are my thoughts.

Having a cute little 2 year old boy that the Hawian Tropic girls, Dereck Bell and other drivers love to hold and take pics with

Having every driver I know fall out of their race

Thowing my weight around to get Cobetto and Ryes into the hospitality are for free food and beer

Sneaking off with a carbon fiber bit of the front of the wrecked Champion R8 and having Herbert sign it

Having Herbert ask if he could use my little boy to pic up chicks

Paying $3 for water

Staying at the same hotel as the Panoz crew and seeing them try to score with the front desk girl while asking for new room keys

Lame a$$ course workers trying to tow cars with a Caddilac pick up and wreck a few cars in the process

So Matt, did you work the deal out? Are you buying Dave's car?

Not allowing Matt to use said kid for the same purpose

Having every driver I know fall out of their race
Tom Fowler threw a rod, and had a bit of a fire in the process.

Thowing my weight around to get Cobetto and Ryes into the hospitality are for free food and beer
Not getting Matt into the hospitality tent

So Matt, did you work the deal out? Are you buying Dave's car?
Not hearing back from the insurance company

So I still don't know.....

Chris and I were appalled that the Escalade continued to drag the car along the concrete barrier. That driver was really really pissed off. Wasn't it the DCFD that was operating those Escalades?

I've got multiple pics of Foo's crash and Tom's fire among others if someone wants to host them.

That was the best race weekend I have been to! All (or at least 3 of) the ALMS classes were fighting the whole race. The World Challenge guys are always awesome whether you are hanging out with them in the paddock or watching them on the track. And although lots of favorite drivers DNF my man Randy kicked butt in GT as usual.
