Default Totaled???

Well a couple days ago somebody ran a stop sign and blasted my pregnant wife in the passenger side. She said she wasn't hurt, but I thought it was in our best interest that she get checked out. So we took her to the doc... her and the baby were fine.

Now the insurance saga begins. Oh, and he has shitty insurance. Check out the about us section. http://www.pgac.com

I just want to say I think its , that you can be driving down the road like a civilized human being minding your own business... some idiot runs a stop sign, f**** your car up, and its a possibility you might not get it back. //rant. Sorry.

I just thought I would throw some pictures torward you guys. Couple of questions...

Do you think it could possibly be a total loss?
If insurance totals my car what are my options?

Picture right after it happened. ***Sorry I used my cell phone****

On the wrecker, The suspension is twisted.

Hit on passenger side, driver side bent too

Fender apron above direct hit.

Drivers side fender apron bent too

Here is a list of the main parts that would need to be replaced. Keep in mind these are prices from Acuraoemparts.com. Body shop could get more of a discount.

Car has Tokico Illumina struts and Ground Control Coilovers. Strut might be bent, I couldn't really see up in there. Spring looked good.

Hood 374.10
Fender 303.42
Inner Fender 52.72
Bumper 246.46
Headlight 385.34
Wheel 133.48
Upper control arm 98.38
Knuckle 218.74

Total 1812.64

That doesn't even include Possible Strut, all the small stuff, or any Labor.

Quality used OEM parts is definately an option I had in mind. We have a great all Honda and Acura salvage yard that delivers.

You need a bolt on front end plus frame work done and whatever is needed on the passengers side in terms of suspension. The insurance company will call it totaled. Have them give you money to keep the car and then part out the rest of it. Douche bags insurance company is obligated to pay for any damages done to your car and if they don't, you're taking somebody to court. Best of luck to you.

for all intensive purposes your car would have been tottalled out due to the labor costs.....if you can fix it yourself, it will be all good....

if the insurance claims it a total loss your options would be :

1.you can buy the car back from your insurance for a lower price and do what you want with the car.
2. take the money they offer you and they take the car and crush it.

itll be a total loss if the car damages exceed the value of the car itself. if so then the 2 stated above are your options from there.

also ithink its a total loss.. because i was in an accident with my old DC and it wasnt as bad as yours... it was still driveable BUT the insurance company claimd it total loss.

the dmg repairs were $4500 and the car was valued at $3200. based on the condition of the car and how many miles were on the motor.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I just really frigging sucks, You buy a nice car, take care of it, service it, make it your own. Then they can just take it away from you.

I hate going to the tow yard and leaving it there... I know it sounds childish, but I feel like if I leave it there I will be disowning it. I dont know.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks H-T

I will pretty much guarantee they will want to total it. If I were you I would want them to. Just be glad everyone is ok. Cars are extremely replaceable.

Price of repair doesn't have to exceed car value to be a total loss.

why do you say that?
my car was priced at $3500 in kbb. it was a 1997 acura integra GS special edition. full leather interrior and everything. they based the value of the car by the miles on the motor and condition of my car was in (interior, exterior, motor condition etc). the insurance company estimated my car would cost $4300 to fix the repairs. my car was still driveable the bumper support had very little frame damage.

i took the car to a shop myself and they told me it would only be $1800 to fix. BUT it wasnt up to me and what shop i took it to, it was all up to the insurance and what shop they took it too. they sent a claim adjuster to my house to look at the car. the insurance company said that "since the price of damages exceed the value of the car its claimed as a total loss" because what would you rather pay? $3400 or $4500 to fix it? so if it cost more to fix the car than its worth, the insurance would rather pay the lower number. so there fore, total loss.

ouch!!! I work at a body shop and ill tell you id sugest totaling this car, just so i could buy it cheap. It realy comes down to how much you like the car. im sure you could find a shop that could fix it right without charging alot. Or you could total it and buy it back from the insurance company for a fraction of the claim. Thats what i would do as long as you dont mind having a salvage title. Good luck!

Jimmy, dude hit me up anytime. I would love to wash cars or just shoot the ****.

Everyone is right, Im just glad my family is ok. We find out the sex Thursday.

One thing I failed to mention....

I still owe 5,216.87 on this car. I bought it two years ago April, I believe. It had 84,000 miles on it, The Suspension was already on it, it had GSR Blades. I gave 8400 before taxes, so 9300 after all the paperwork. My payment is 204/month, and I haven't missed a payment. My bank takes $51/week from my check that is directly deposited into my account. I could possibly be upside down in this car.

If they call it a total loss with the car valued at 5000, then I owe my friggin bank 700 dollars. This is all bullshit. We're not at fault... The other guys insurance is going to for it, and I could be the one getting the short end of the stick. I just doesn't make any sense.

They will total it if the cost to fix the car is 70% to 75% of the cars value. Insurance companies tend to total more cars than they pay to get fixed. Especially older cars like his integra.
My wife was hit in a 2000 civic and they wrote us a check for well above KBB value. Adjuster said it was one of the nicer cars he had seen for the year. Everything was spotless. It was also a hit similar to this one, maybe a little harder. It sucks, but you are better off having it totaled.
