Just swapped out a SOHC on a Civic Si but the driver side axle wouldn’t engage all the way in. Try pushing it, use a rubber mallet and hammer the tip of axle, slide it inside the hub and bang it but it has a 1/4 inch gap between the seal. I’m using the same axle, so the axle by itself shouldn’t be the problem. Is something inside the transmission blocking?

I swapped out axle several times but this is the 1st time I have problems with it.

 

Would the circlip cause the problem?

I actually took off the circlip and try installing it but it still did the same thing.

Of course I'm not going install it without the circlip.
