Painting a valve cover on a integra and the side moldings????
Hey does any one know where I could purchase a valve cover for a b18b engine in the color of red or how hard it would be to paint my self . Also if you take off the side moldings on the integra are there holes or no. If so should I take it off and cover up the holes or should I just paint the side molding. About how much would that cost also.
BSQ has great instructions somewhere on painting a valve cover red, he basically used a special textured spray paint, some alcohol, a razor and masking tape.
I remember seeing the pics and it did come out textured and looking clean.
Hey I found the pics! and instructions...congrats! <thank bsq for this!>
Instructions:
1.) Clean valve cover with soapy water to remove oil & grease and then rinsed with clean water.
2.) Drive car for a few minutes to dry the water from the valve cover.
3.) Remove valve cover from car.
4.) Wipe off inside of valve cover to remove all oil.
5.) Place valve cover on newspapers or other suitable material for painting.
6.) Tape off oil filler hole to prevent paint from entering valve cover. Also taped off valve cover stud holes for the same reason.
7.) Apply thin coat of Vasoline on all exposed letters that I did not want to paint.
8.) Apply several even coats of VHT Wrinkle Plus Red paint (SP-204) to valve cover.
9.) Let valve cover air dry for 45-60 minutes.
10.) Carefully removed any tape that has been applied to the valve cover.
11.) Place valve cover in oven for 30 minutes at 250 degrees, then 300 degrees for 15 minutes. (optional)
12.) Remove valve cover from over an let it cool. (optional)
13.) Take a razor blade and remove paint from letters. Using a little paint thinner on a Q-Tip clean letters to remove any paint which was not removed by the razor blade.
14.) Reinstall valve cover.

Thats very interesting...and it comes out "gritty" looking just like a stock valve cover, or does it look glossy/painted?

if you remove the molding it does leave holes which need to be filled and then most of the car if not all needs to be repainted, a body shop should paint them for approx $100
where can I get blue paint like that? or can I just use grey as a primer? and get a matt blue?
