Straight 2 the point some1 put sugar in my gas tank.I didnt start the car or anything so the motor is fine but wat iz the best and fastest way to clean out the tank is der a drain plug somewhere or do i have to drop the whole tank down an clean it out.My car is a 90 civic Dx Hatch

How much sugar?
How do you know it was sugar?
Did you google search to see what the affects are? Sugar's not the worst thing in the world, it dissolves... So how much?

Change fuel filter, run it, fuel filter again? If you don't know how much it might not dissolve in your tank and could be a problem.

 

There is a drain plug on the CRX tank
located on the driver's side..

I would imagine the hatch would have one as well..

There is a drain plug on the drivers side (I think) of the tank. It might be a 16 mm but I can't remember, I drained my tank a year ago so it's kinda fogy.

 

Drain it... fill it drain it again make sure its all out!

X'2 I watched that episode and the **** you can put in a motor is rediculous and it will still run fine. I would'nt be too worried run it and see if it acts up, fill the tank right full to diute the most first. If theres a problem then I would drain it. What kinda of motor do you have though. stock I would'nt give a ****, expensive swap then I would be a bit cautious..

while i respect the mythbusters analysis, i think given enough sugar, things could get really f'd up.. the problem with this scenario is there is no way to tell how much was put in. A pound of sugar in a full gas tank is a lot different from a pound of sugar with 2 gallons in the tank.

i would drain it fully to be careful, and use the leftover bad gas to set the persons house on fire who did it..

If you know for a fact that sugar was put in the tank then definitely drain the tank and refill with fresh fuel. I know from experience that sugar (in the form of a 2 liter Coca-Cola) will clog fuel injectors. Heat+sugar equals carmelized sugar which is hard as a rock and will stop an injector cold. Maybe try some fuel dry when you refill

that does make sense, mythbusters used a carbed v8

 

You said that you haven't even tried starting it right? That is good.

I'd drain the gas into a big container.

Leave the drain plug out and pour what you just drained out through the tank a few times.

Fill with a couple gallons of fresh gas and then drain that out.

Then if you feel like flushing it some more then go ahead, if not then try starting it and running it.

Colas in america anyway dont use sugar.They use High fructose corn syrup.I know its simular but still diffrent enough not to compare it to straight sugar.Also I was wondering, how do you know that there was sugar put in?Its seems that if you saw or someone saw and told you, you/they would know about how much?And how do you know that someone is not bsing you?.You would think that the sugar would clog up when pouring due mixing with the residual gas along the surface of the tube.I remeber hearing about how the tube that goes to the tank is curved and such to make it harder to steal the gas out of it.IMHO it doesnt seem like you could get alot of sugar through the fuel tube very easily.Im no "expert" but if you could respond to the questions above maybe it will help somewhat.

I'm not sure about that either but wouldn't the fuel filter get clogged before anything else?

 

i wouldn't think the filter would get clogged. but i mean it also depends on how much sugar was put in, and i cant imagine someone stood there for very long trying to empty the contents of a 5lb bag of sugar into someones tank. and as was stated before it also depends on how much gas you have in there. If your almost on a full tank then the sugar has most likely been so diluted that you probably have nothing to worry about. If you were really low then it might be a good idea to dump a 5 gallon container of fuel into your tank before you try and start it up.

The thing about the sugar effin up the injectors i dunno if i buy that. There would have to be a massive amount of sugar in the tank to really cause problems. It makes since that if the sugar carmelized it would become sticky and end up hardening inside the injector sprayer. However i find it hard to believe that in the process of traveling through the fuel lines that the temperatue is going to come close to the 300 degrees necessary to carmelize sugar. Either way since its not like particularly difficult to drain a tank, it wouldn't take much effort to just play it safe.

worse comes to worse drop the tank. or drain the tank, and see if you can clean it out from the fuel pump area if you take it out.

if you havent drained it yet, then drain it dont be lazy. they also sell some stuff at your local autoshops like autozone that clean your gas tank i believe its called stabalizer (dont quote me on it, read it before you buy it). i would drain it and clean it with that stuff and then refill with fresh and drain again. $20 bucks in gas is better then replacing something more expensive. check this webpage it might help you feel better http://auto.howstuffworks.com/...k.htm says that sugar doesnt dissolve in gas...

 

Thanxs 4 all the replies guys.I know it sugar for a fact i wake up one morning 2 work on the car an notice the gas lid is open i try to close it but someone forced it open an bent the latch so i open the gas cap an notice sugar right in the recess of the fuel door i stick a hanger down the tube an sugar was all stuck to it.I didnt turn the car on at all its a stock 1.5 but runs like it haves 0 miles Ima go threw the process of cleaning it out on my day off thanks guys

 

That sucks man.I would definately look into getting a security camera or alarm or something.Its obvious someone doesnt like you and this probaly will not be an isolated event. Best of luck to you though.
