Default Bought a 91 honda civic and it wont start, help!

Well I traded my alpine subwoofer for a non running 91 civic hatchback. The motor does not run fuel injectors. So im not familiar with this type of carb or whatever.

It turns over and over, sometimes it will start up for a few seconds, and for those few seconds it idles very rough, and dies.

It is getting spark to the plugs, un did the gas line that goes to the carb(not sure if its a carb or what, sorry) and put that line into a bottle and turned the key and its getting gas to there. So it gets gas and spark. Also after cranking it over, smoke would be coming out of the air filter box.

Any idea's why it will not start?

Thanks!

have you checked to make sure the spark plugs are on there in the right order? and have you checked to see if its still in time? also the motor your lookin at DOES use fuel injectors, it has one large injector, and one auxiliary injector. Its called DPFI (Dual Point Fuel Injection).

Yes, plugs/wires are in order, assuming they are the same as a bseries, which I was told they were.

Havent checked to see if its still in time, car was sitting for months, and never drove it, but said the timing may be off because it idle'd rough previously. Popped the distributor cap off, and the distributor rotor didnt have the screw holding it in, so bought a new rotor and put it in, but that didnt help.

Interesting on the injectors, I never knew that. I feel dumb for calling it a carbeurator LOL.

ha yea i can see where you might get the idea that its a carb though, i mean it does kinda look like one lol. But yea definately find TDC and see where the cam gear is sitting to figure out how far off if it is, if in fact it is out of time. Also check to make sure the distributor isn't 180 degrees out

Well before I go grab a case of heineken and get to work on the car, IF the timing is on, is there any other possibilities to look for after I check the timing?
