seventeens, am i crazy?
yeah so i found a set of wheels i want for my civic when i get it all done... 17" enkie bortex rims.
am i crazy for wanting these? they're currently being rolled around on a GTI so... yeah
my friend who had two civics (an ef and an eg) said i'm crazy and i should stick with small rims... but i want tire tucked status w/o hella sparks, if you guys catch my drift.
go ahead, flame away. what i need to know is how much mpg will be sacrificed? i'm building my car for dd, not mad crazy track times. doesn't have to be quick. i'm going for looks. should i expect to go to through wheel bearings as well like crazy?
thanks!!

If you want looks stick with 15's or a mild set of 16's. 17s look retarded on EF's IMO. Your ride will be shitty, gas mileage will suck and your speedometer will be off. Your car will basically look like a slammed chuck wagon.
hey not to thread jack but will 17s fit under a CRX? im asking cuz i bought a project car(91 si) w/o any wheels and i have a set of 17s at my house n it would save me some $$ if i could rock um temporarily.
if you are tucking you pretty much don't have a working suspension anyway, the bigger question is that could it get any worse
of course half of the h-t think slammed honda are the best thing since sliced bread

They'll fit, but bear these fun facts in mind:
You'll have fender rubbing
You'll need to go with a narrower tire and wheel to fit them under the fender
You'll need to get tires that have the same outer diameter, otherwise you'll screw up your gearing, speedometer, and camber (due to modified ride height), which will also screw up your tire wear something fierce.
You're probably going to be a bit slower when accelerating or decelerating because you're pushing your rotational mass farther from the center of rotation.
CRX wheel bearings are fairly robust, so I doubt you'll see a difference in their longevity unless the new wheel/tire package is significantly heavier than stock.
Your MPG will remain roughly the same (+/- 1mpg or so) as long as you keep the outer diameter of the tires identical.
Oh, and they'll look like poo (just throwing out my opinion). You'll become popular around these parts, but pretty much everyone who understands performance or engineering will just sigh and shake their head at you. There is no logical advantage to bigger wheels. Good luck, and I hope this helps!

More unsprung weight can't be good for mpg or performance...and in the opinion of many (myself included), 17's look downright disgraceful on EF's. But it's your car, do what you want. If I had an EF I'd put 14's on it

i had a set on my ef for a couple hrs to sell to a guy....ride was terrible....speedo wasnt out that bad...1-5mph........rubbed in the fenders bad...im also lowered 4"....im very happy to have my 14's back on now...rides sooo much nicer
allright allright i get the point steer clear of the 17's. just wanting to get some opinions. right now wheels are the LAST thing on the list for it, i still have to get all 5spd stuff (minus the pedals and clutch cable) in order to be even able to drive it. i currently have some generic (maybe old schoolish american racing?) "skinny" fives that are 13's that i'm going to rock till the tires i have are bald. i saw a set of them on a members car on here actualy and they were painted gloss black and looked hella good IMO actualy so... i'll stick w that for now.
any one see EF's rockin deep dish rims? my friend is lowered on 15's w a 2" lip and rolled fenders. looks SICK. on a side note he used to have ae86's... lol

I'm glad you saw the light and plan to avoid the 17's. If you're going to do new wheels, you might as well get some kind of performance out of them. Why not put something with a little width on your little crx?
Something like these:
9" wides
They're out of stock at the moment, but 949 has a great reputation and refills their stock regularly.

I'm almost positive there was one in the crx/ef picture post. I'm not exactly sure if the guy left them on the car after a thread got him flamed hardcore.
16's dumped are the biggest I would ever go and I'm into cars with big deep dish rims which is why my next project will be a luxury big body v8.

a 205/25/17 is not that low profile, it even rides and handles nice on my 2000 accord, which is way heavier
its the exact same outside diameter too, so the only thing that will suffer a little is: hard acceleration from a dead stop
i dont care a flyin *** about that!

first off the op wants to tuck tire without scrapin'.
that's damn near impossible ef's are hard to slam and they don't really tuck tire.
unless you run a 55,60 series tire on a 15,16 rim your not gonna tuck tire.
so 17's would tuck tire without slammin' it so your suspension should still be functioning the way i see it the only down side is turning you wont be able to turn all the way cause you'll scrape on the inside of the wheel well

also just roll the fender edges as well

well you could cut a peice off but i wouldnt not worth it imo just dont turn the steering wheel all the way.
yes rolling your fenders helps out alittle too.
