I don't use that bandsaw. It was in my attic I was giving it to my buddy so i just had it out. I have a harbor freight vertical/horizontal bandsaw that I use. That is a 1.8 sohc motor out of a 90-94 DSM.

More practice welding and take your time when welding it.
But need closer pics to get a good look at the welds.
Semmes you need better gas covorage.
Was it mig welded?

I've seen worst tig welds then those because of bad gas coverage or contaminated gas.
The welds look like it was mig welded with just your typical Argon/CO2 mix gas with steel welding wire. On the other hand I've also seen better mig welds and some as flat as tig welds.

ok ok. why don't you go out to the garage, make a turbo manifold, then take a photo and show me what the welds should look like.

unless he's running 25 lbs. of boost at the track ALL DAY, those welds look like they should be fine.

The turbo is a 45 trim. The motor is a 1.8 sohc out of a 90-94 DSM.

what are you trying to get at?

go ahead then, discourage a first time manifold builder for the welds that arn't perfect. for his application... i'm sure THEY WILL BE FINE.

maybe because the guy said "let me know what you think"? It's pretty clear the welds are not fantatic but none of us can really see them so I don't see how you can say they are fine. I really doubt that getting some good advice from people that weld every day is going to discourage him.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm pretty new at tig welding. The welds may not look to appealing but there pretty strong and have good penetration. I have a cheapy harbor freight welder it doesn't do the greatest welding, but it does the job till my new welder comes in. I just gotta keep on practicing and ill get better.

i was welding for about 2 years before i decided i should try makin manifolds... and it came out great!
but a lot of these kids on here are buyin **** machines, and just goin straight to the tube welding..

sorry OP, it looks bad... pratice your welding on something cheaper, take good pics of it, get advice.. learn from your mistakes, then go after the prize! ok?

i can see the welds.

looks like your only problem is your gas coverage and possibly too much heat. either that or your moving too slow.

you also may be trying to weld too much at a time.

i would try going 1/2" at a time and letting the gas cover the weld until the cherry is gone.

besides, the coloring, it looks pretty good. good job. keep it up

i love the "it doesn't look good but its strong". seems like people that can't weld always say that. not trying to attack anyone here, but if it looks bad, it usually is.

From what I can see you are moving way too fast and the material isn't getting complete argon coverage. I also think that, from what I can see, you should bevel the peices a bit more. Your beads seem to move quite a bit and look raised in a few places.

Go for round two and post up new better pics! I promise, you won't be afraid to post close ups your second time around.

I got a gas lens for my welder, Turned up the argon flow on the torch. Ive been practicing. Ive been welding in 2 passes a fusion pass and a filler pass. I'm still not to good with the filler pass. Here are some pics. Let me know what I'm doing wrong. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

The material looks dirty, use a wire wheel to clean the material prior to welding. What sch pipe is that? if its sch10, A single pass with filler is all thats required so long as you have a good bevel on the pipe. Also, clean the pipe with some acetone to remove any oils as well. Looking better!

With 4g63's engines being dirt cheap why use the 1.8L ?

Ive owned this car for 7 years and since I got it I always wanted to turbo my 1.8 . Its more of a challenge since there is to aftermarket for the car everything has to be custom made.
