Hello, I have a 97 Honda Accord DX / Auto with 142,000 Miles on it. The Transmission shifts hard into every gear when accelerating. Once up to speed, she drives like a dream. I just purchased this vehicle so I would not have to drive my big SUV around. Does anyone have any idea of what it could be or what to look for, etc?

For starters, The transmission fluid level is correct. And Yes I know I need to change it soon with Honda ATF, since I don't know the maintenance history, although I am sure it was fine (one owner car in pretty much perfect condition). I am jsut looking for thoughts. Thanks for the help in advanced.

 

I had the same issue until I changed the fluid with Honda fluid. Shifts 100% better now. And also, I have 217,000 miles on my car and I just purchased it in May of this year.

 

Is Honda ATF really that great? What about some high end fluids like Royal Purple, Lucas, or Redline?

 

Honda ATF = designed by honda for honda

So yes it's better than generic ones.

Also this year accord is known for having hard shifts especially 1>2
