well you need to figure out what you are getting for a head.. the ls will be the best bang for the buck for the b20 head. but for the b16 head or gsr head you would want to match them with there manifolds..... some mani's are compatible and some are not..

well i hope you also realize that just because you put a head on the b20 bottom end doesnt mean you can take your new engine to the same redline of the engine that the vtec head came off. the stock block is not and will not handle that for very long. I believe at the very least for a fairly reliable ls/vtec setup people will commonly use arp rod bolts, and possible different rods but i'm not sure. you'll definately want to look into this if you plan on taking the engine over the stock b20's redline.

if you want ls/vtec, buy an ls block, b16a or b18c head, vtec conversion kit, ecu and you should be set motor wise..
b16 or gsr tranny..i personally would go with b16 though..BUT THATS ME.
and yes, don't worry about the intake manifold right now

LS and b20 are the same exact motors. The only difference is 1. The b20 is a 84mm bore, where the LS is 81mm. 2. The cylinder wall design of the b20 is different then that of a LS.
As far as internally they have the same crank and rods, same head, same cams, same water pump, same oil pump ect. Only difference is Pistons.
A B20/vtec mod for mod will make more power then a LS/Vtec for the simple fact of displacement.
I am a huge hater on LS, b20/vtecs. I feel that if honda wanted it that way from the factory, they wouldve made it that way. Get yourself a B20, some cams, a b16 or gsr trans and call it a day and be happy. The problem with slapping a vtec head on a non vtec motor is people wanna rev to the moon and a stock ls/b20 bottom end cannot handle that due to the rod stroke ratio

i bought my b20 from them when they was on sale, paid 515 shipped to Ohio. We bought 2 B20's one for my car one for my buddies teg, a LS and a D15b all in the same week and all of them run amazingly strong. They were super clean when we got them and fired right up and have no issues with them since.
