Type R in to EG question ?
I finally got the cash for this swap and i was wondering if anybody can tell me if its better to go with a JDM motor(b18c) or a USDM motor B18c5...ive heard the theres more wiring with the JDM motor and what else needs to be changed as in mounts, radiator hoses, etc
to the "what does that mean" it's a quote from Fast and the Furious.
The USDM motor will not have as high of a compression ratio as the JDM motor from what I have read. It will be easier to wire up, as you will need to get another harness for the JDM motor. You could perhaps modify the JDM harness to fit. Due to the car being right hand drive it will pose a few problems when doing the swap not had when doing USDM swaps.

I had a JDM ITR motor in my car.
You CAN use the original engine wiring harness that comes with the motor (Provided its not cut).
The mounts are the same as the USDM ITR motor same with the hoses.
You will need a jumper harness to use the JDM ECU.
My suggestion would be to get a rechipped P28 (92-95 Civic SI computer) from someone like Kenji or even Skunk2. You will eliminate the need for a jumper harness and the annoying speed limiter (112-120 on Honda motors from Japan).
If you do decide to go with a echipped P28 then you will need to get a USDM vtec solenoid off any b-series motor (Japanese vtec motors have the oil pressure in the vtec solenoid tapped off).
That's all you need really (Besides the obvious stuff). If you are in Cali though do yourself a favour adn buy a USDM motor (I heard there inspections are pretty tough).

Everything else I agree with.
Truthfully, I'd get the 98 spec JDM ITR motor.
1. You get the 4.785 final drive
2. You get 11:1 compression
3. You get the 4-1 header..
It's filled with goodies that the USDM motor does not have..provided that the place where you are buying it from allows you to keep all that stuff.
USDM would still be fun, and it'd be "more legit", but most people just pay the money when it comes time to smog..
yes i do live in cali
im a mechanic at a shop with a smog machine so i dont think id have trouble smoging the car.
will the d1.6 harness work of of my si?
thanks for all the response they been real helpful

Some swaps don't come with a full exhaust manifold.
And yes I'll say it again you can use the same engine harness that comes on the motor. I know because I did it. They just reach each other (Barely) but it does work (I didn't have an extra 500 bux to shell out for USDM wiring harness that won't make me go faster
).
Some other things I forgot. If you use the JDM ECU in a EG then you have to wire knock up. If you use the rechipped P28 then that's not an issue.
I'm speaking on experience (I have/had a JDM ITR motor in a 93 hatch back si).

if you have the money for the swap, dont flame me for saying this, just consider what else you can do with the $$$ performance wise. maybe 4.5-5k for the r motor: 165whp. piece together b20 swap w/gsr tranny etc and turbo for a little more $$ but a ton more perf:280whp/assloads of tq. or even ls w/turbo for quite a bit less than the b20. i was going to go type r, but NA can get very pricey. but the type r is a fantastic motor.
